Ke Wu (Guest Intrusion) is characterized by the expulsion of green, yellow, and white froth from the mouth, mixed with undigested food residues. The facial complexion changes abnormally, accompanied by panting, abdominal pain, body turning and convulsions, resembling Jing Xian (Startling Epilepsy). However, the eyes do not roll upward. The treatment method should focus on dispelling evil qi, supporting righteous qi, scattering fright, and calming the spirit. The principal formulas are Su He Wan (Styrax Pill) or Zhi Sheng Bao Ming Dan (Supreme Sage Life-Preserving Pill).
Ke Wu refers to a disease caused by external guest qi (pathogenic factors) invading and offending the host qi. For instance, the pathogenic factors of the Five Qi entering through the nose will offend the Heart and Liver; the pathogenic factors of the Five Flavors entering through the mouth will offend the Spleen and Stomach; being startled will offend the Shen (Spirit); encountering contrariety will offend the Yi (Intent). One should extensively investigate the etiology. Thus it is said: "If one sincerely seeks the cause, even if one does not hit the mark exactly, one will not be far off." For details, see *Yu Ying Jia Mi*.
A six-month-old infant suddenly appeared miserable and unhappy, sleeping deeply and refusing breast milk. I examined him and said: "The child's color and form show no signs of illness. If we attribute it to Exogenous Wind-Cold, there are no exogenous symptoms; if we attribute it to Internal Injury from Milk and Food, there are no internal injury symptoms. Could this child be preoccupied with thoughts? Overthinking injures the Spleen, leading to lethargy and refusal to nurse." His parents realized and said, "There was a young boy accompanying him, whom I sent away three days ago." The wet nurse also stated that since that boy left, the child had become unhappy and refused milk. The father urgently ordered the boy to be called back. Upon seeing the companion playing and laughing, the father remarked, "Without your profound medical skill, this cause could not have been known."
A one-year-old child cried incessantly. After careful examination, I determined it was not an illness. The parents asked, "Why is he crying so abnormally if he is not ill?" I asked the wet nurse, "What toys does this child usually play with?" She replied, "A horsewhip." The whip was brought forth, and upon seeing it, the child laughed heartily, slapped others, and his crying stopped.
A nine-month-old infant vomited milk, had yellow stools, and presented with slight fever. I said, "This is due to injury from hot milk. The vomit has a fishy odor, and accumulation has already formed." The mother said, "No other food was consumed before nursing." I whispered to the father, "This must be caused by 'Jiao Nai' (nursing immediately after parental intercourse)." The father asked what 'Jiao Nai' meant. I explained, "After parents engage in sexual intercourse, breastfeeding the infant immediately introduces the pathogenic factor of Yin Fire, which offends the Righteous Qi of the Spleen and Stomach. If untreated, it will inevitably lead to Pi Masses (abdominal masses). Why is this so? Yin Fire refers to Liver Fire. When Liver Fire manifests, it causes convulsions. Pi is a disease of the Spleen. Accumulation that does not dissipate becomes Pi Masses." The father asked how to treat it. I said, "One must drain the Liver and tonify the Spleen." Therefore, Xie Huo Wei Ling Wan (Fire-Draining Stomach-Ling Decoction) was administered.
