Tongchi (Neonatal Erythema) results from toxic heat acquired in the womb. After birth, the entire body appears red as if painted with cinnabar. Qingre Jiedu Tang (Clear Heat and Detoxify Decoction) is extremely effective, while Jiangshi Huadu Wan (Jiang's Toxin-Resolving Pill) has remarkable efficacy.
[Note] Tongchi refers to a condition caused by the pregnant woman consuming excessive spicy and hot foods, leading to the condensation of toxic heat that accumulates in the uterus. Consequently, the newborn's head and limbs appear red like cinnabar paint, hence the name Tongchi. The primary treatment should be Qingre Jiedu Tang. If there is excess heat accompanied by constipation, Jiangshi Huadu Dan should be used.
Qingre Jiedu Tang (Clear Heat and Detoxify Decoction)
Sheng Dihuang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos), Bohe Ye (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus, heart removed), Chishao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, raw).
Use Dengxin (Junci Medulla) as a guide, decoct in water, and take orally.
[Formula Song] Qingre Jiedu Tang is praiseworthy, containing Sheng Dihuang, Huanglian, and Jinyinhua; Bohe, Lianqiao, and Chishao; plus Mutong, Gancao, and Dengxin.
Jiangshi Huadu Dan (Jiang's Toxin-Resolving Pill)
Xijiao (Rhinocerotis Cornu), Huanglian, Jiegeng (Platycodonis Radix), Yuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), Bohe Ye, Gancao (raw), Dahuang (raw, each 1 liang), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis, 5 qian).
Grind into fine powder, mix with refined white honey to form pills weighing 6 fen each. Take one pill per dose, dissolved in Dengxin soup.
Chiyou Feng (Wandering Red Wind) is formed by toxic heat from the fetus. It manifests as red swelling on the skin that moves throughout the body. If it affects the head and limbs, it is treatable; if it returns inward to the heart and abdomen, death is likely. Internally administer Xijiao Lanye San (Rhino Horn and Isatis Leaf Powder); externally apply Bianfa (Bloodletting with needle) and apply Shengong San (Divine Merit Powder). Infants within 100 days are contraindicated for bloodletting; applying paste and topical methods can bring peace.
[Note] Pediatric Chiyou Feng syndrome is mostly caused by toxic heat retained from the fetus. Alternatively, excessive warmth after birth causes toxic heat to evaporate outward, resulting in red, hot, and swollen skin resembling cinnabar paint. It wanders不定ly across the body, hence the name Chiyou Feng. It commonly occurs between the head/face and limbs. If the pathogen enters the heart and abdomen internally, it is fatal. The treatment method is to take Xijiao Jiedu Yin (Rhino Horn Detoxifying Decoction). If ineffective, follow up with Lanye San, and externally use Bianfa to prick out toxic blood. For severe toxicity, apply Shengong San; for mild toxicity, no external application is needed. For infants within 100 days, Bianfa (bloodletting) is contraindicated because their muscles cannot withstand it. Instead, use the Raw Pork Paste Method or apply a mixture of Chixiaodou (Adzuki Bean) powder and egg white to the affected area, which is very effective.
Xijiao Jiedu Yin (Rhino Horn Detoxifying Decoction)
Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus, stir-fried), Xijiao, Jingjie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Lianqiao (heart removed), Jinyinhua, Chishao Yao, Sheng Gancao, Chuan Huanglian, Sheng Dihuang.
Use Dengxin as a guide, decoct in water, and take orally.
[Formula Song] Xijiao Jiedu medicine is excellent, combining Niubang and Xijiao with Jingjie and Fangfeng; Lianqiao, Yinhua, and Chishao; along with Gancao, Chuan Lian, and Sheng Dihuang.
Lanye San (Isatis Leaf Powder)
Lanye (Isatidis Folium, 5 qian), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Xijiao Xie (Rhinocerotis Cornu shavings), Chuan Dahuang (rhubarb rhizome, crushed, slightly stir-fried), Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), Zhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, raw, each 2 qian), Chuan Shengma ( Cimicifugae Rhizoma, 1 qian), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 1 qian), Sheng Gancao (1 qian).
Grind into coarse powder. Take 1 qian per dose, add one small cup of water, decoct until reduced to half, strain, add one wine glass of Zhuli (Bamboo Sap), boil three times, let cool to warm, and administer according to the child's age and size. For those with weak Qi, remove Dahuang.
Bianxue Fa (Bloodletting Method)
Suck the accumulated toxic blood to one spot. Break a fine porcelain vessel, select the sharp fragments, split the tip of a chopstick to clamp the shard, tie it securely. Hold the chopstick tip lightly with two fingers, align the porcelain edge with the blood accumulation, and strike frequently with another chopstick to prick out the toxic blood. After Bianfa, if toxicity is severe, apply Shengong San; if mild, do not use Shengong San after pricking, as the broken skin may cause pain from Caowu (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata). If the lesion is on the head, do not use Bianfa; instead, use a horizontal needle to puncture and lift the affected area to release toxic blood for cure.
Shengong San (Divine Merit Powder)
Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, stir-fried), Caowu (Aconiti Lateralis Radix, raw).
Grind each into powder separately, mix in equal parts. Apply mixed with mouthwash (Note: Avoiding its use is preferred). Keep moistening with mouthwash frequently.
Raw Pork Paste Method
Slice raw pork thinly and apply to the red and swollen area. Change frequently.
Topical Application Method
Take an unspecified amount of raw Chixiaodou (Adzuki Beans), grind into fine powder. Mix with egg white and apply to the affected area. Reapply when dry.
