General Summary: Rheumatism and wind-dampness flow through the interstices of bone joints; pain accompanied by palpitations indicates Jing Tan (Startling Paralysis). If there is severe pain in the wrists and shins, with condensation forming masses resembling a crane's knee, this is known as Crane Knee Wind.
The *Nei Jing* states: Limb weakness is called "Huan Feng" (Sluggish Wind), and heaviness is called "Shi Bi" (Damp Bi). Jing Tan in children arises from limb convulsions during the onset of Startling Wind. One should allow nature to take its course before treating, to avoid generating other pathologies.
If parents, fearing the severity of the illness, forcibly press or restrain the child, they fail to realize that tendons are the exterior correspondence of the Liver. During an attack, forcibly restraining the limbs prevents tendons from relaxing and extending, causing meridians to be blocked by wind pathogens, ultimately resulting in permanent disability. There are also cases of flaccid paralysis and numbness in the four limbs, causing unbearable distending pain in the fingertips and toes; this is caused by wind-toxic qi. Thus, it is transmitted that "Wind excess leads to diseases of the extremities." Whenever a child has frequent palpitations, generalized swelling and pain, or inability to move the limbs freely, these are signs of Jing Tan. If treatment is delayed until the elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles, where stubborn nodules form due to flowing and condensing pathogens, or if the knees become swollen with muscle wasting and exposed bones resembling a crane's knee, or if carbuncles and sores appear, this is named the Crane Knee Syndrome. For the above manifestations, sweating therapy should be employed first to open the cou li (skin pores), thereby eliminating Qi-heat and dampness. Use Bai Jie San (Hundred-Release Powder) combined with Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria), adding doubled amounts of Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄), aiming for slight perspiration. Subsequently, administer Qu Feng San (Wind-Expelling Powder) and Du Huo Tang (Angelica Pubescens Decoction) with Sang Ji Sheng (Taxillus Serratus). This ensures wind does not arise and phlegm does not form, leading to recovery. If carbuncles, furuncles, or sores cause severe pain, use Black Qian Niu (Black Morning Glory Seed), half raw and half stir-fried, slightly crushed, taken with decocted wine free of ash. Follow with Wu Ling San to eliminate cold-dampness flowing into the channels.

Du Huo Tang (Angelica Pubescens Decoction): Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui, 当归), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu, 白术), Astragali Radix (Huangqi, 黄), Cinnamomi Ramulus (Rougui, 桂), Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi, 牛膝), Angelicae Pubescentis Radix (Duhuo, 独活), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao, 甘草).
General Summary: When the entire head and forehead develop lesions resembling leprosy, using Lian Chuang San (Lianchuang Powder) brings peace and recovery. When the whole body is eroded and ulcerated, causing much distress, applying Yi Mo Jin (One Touch Gold) yields immediate relief.
The *Nei Jing* states: All pain, itching, and sores belong to Heart Fire. Fire stagnating internally and erupting causes such diseases. The Heart governs Blood; blood heat generates wind. Severe internal heat stagnation transmits sequentially, so Fire generates Earth (Spleen). Blood pours into the Yangming Meridian, which governs muscles. Wind-heat and blood heat contend, manifesting on the skin with various names. Yellow pus appearing white indicates Earth generating Metal (Lung), the mother returning to the son. Initially, mild itching and light heat occur; severe swelling, pain, and ulceration indicate extreme heat. Blood coagulation transforms into fluid, and Qi stagnation forms pus. In severe cases, alternating chills and fever occur with reduced appetite, which is particularly concerning. It is appropriate to vent and purge wind-toxins, cool the Heart Meridian, and resolve Stomach heat. Use Dang Gui San (Angelica Sinensis Powder) added with Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian, 黄连), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma, 升麻), Puerariae Radix (Gegen, 葛根), Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 姜), Allii Cepae Bulbus (Congbai, 葱), and Junci Medulla (Dengxin, 灯心) decocted and taken orally, along with Niu Bang Tang (Arctii Decoction). Externally apply Si Huang San (Four-Yellows Powder) and Yi Mo Jin (One Touch Gold).
If scalp lesions spread into patches, frequently dry and itchy, with sparse hair resembling dandruff, this is due to accumulated heat attacking upward, named Tu Chuang (Bald Scalp Sores). Although located on the head, people only know to treat externally with medicines for cure; within ten days or a month, the sores recur. Why? The head is the convergence point of all Yang meridians. According to the *Hong Fan Five Elements*, Fire flares upward. Heat-toxin attacks upward; two Yangs scorch each other, so sores arise on the head. The method should resolve chronic accumulated heat and guide away Heart Meridian irritability. Use Bai Jie San (Hundred-Release Powder) with doubled Wuhe Tang (Five-Harmonies Decoction), plus Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (Shengjiang, 姜), Allii Cepae Bulbus (Congbai, 葱), and Junci Medulla (Dengxin, 灯心) decocted and taken orally. Subsequently apply Lian Chuang San (Lianchuang Powder) and Si Huang San (Four-Yellows Powder).
When the whole body is eroded into patches, even causing irritability so severe that clothes cannot touch the body, this is because wind-fire stagnates internally in the Yangming Meridian and flows toxicly outward, named Feng Re Chuang (Wind-Heat Sores). Use Bai Jie San (Hundred-Release Powder) added with Wuhe Tang (Five-Harmonies Decoction), Polygoni Multiflori Radix (Heshouwu, 何首乌), Schizonepetae Spica (Jingjie, 荆芥), and Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Baizhi, 白芷) decocted and taken orally, along with Niu Bang Tang (Arctii Decoction). Purge the intestines and stomach, release wind-heat, and the sores will heal spontaneously without recurrence. Externally apply Si Huang San (Four-Yellows Powder) and Lian Ma San (Lianma Powder). For scalds and burns, first use Renshen Qiang Huo San (Ginseng and Notopterygium Powder) to release the exterior, then apply Qu Shuang Gao (Frost-Removing Ointment) for immediate effect.
When children have sores all over the body, with crusts on the head like cakes, this is caused by fetal heat-toxin. It is appropriate to treat with Xi Jiao Jie Du Wan (Rhino Horn Detoxifying Pills) with modifications. However, applying medicines and bathing are strictly contraindicated, lest the medicine enter the abdomen and cause significant harm.
Regarding painful sores with continuous tidal fever, although this stems from Spleen deficiency, it is also due to Lung Qi damage. First, regulate the Spleen and tonify deficiency, then re-treat the sores using Dang Gui Jie Du Tang (Angelica Sinensis Detoxifying Decoction).
