On the dorsum of the foot, toes, and areas such as Jiexi (ST41) where shoe laces are tied. Lumps appear with excruciating pain, each episode nearly causing death. Take a piece of blue brick, heat it red-hot in fire, place it in a wooden bucket, and pour aged vinegar onto the brick. Have an adult hold the child's foot, suspending it above the brick for steam fumigation. If the vapor is too intense, move the foot slightly away; if the temperature is moderate, bring it closer to the brick. Seal the bucket opening with cotton wadding or similar material to prevent vapor leakage. One fumigation yields miraculous results.
The clinical presentation involves twitching and pulling sensations, identical in form to previous convulsive disorders (Jing Feng). However, the horizontal and vertical lines on the palms are deep yellow in color. This is due to fright injuring the Gallbladder, hence the yellow discoloration. Apply the "Na Su" technique (a pediatric massage method), gently tapping a drum against the child, gradually increasing intensity, striking firmly two or three times, then removing the drum to dispel doubt. Immediately administer Shenzhu Tang (Ginseng and Bamboo Decoction) to calm the Gallbladder and Heart.
Mr. Xiang from the Linshan family had a four-year-old son who died (fell into a state resembling death/shock) from fright caused by firecrackers in the twelfth lunar month. Resuscitation was attempted using the "Na Su" technique. Because his parents called out with slightly heavy voices, he suffered another fatal fright. During feeding, show him the food first, then make sounds, so that he would not be frightened again. His father, also a pediatrician, administered Zao Ren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae) and Yuan Zhi (Radix Polygalae) without effect. Only after I explained the etiology did I say: "This is a disease of the Gallbladder, yet treated as a Heart disorder; this is erroneous." I prescribed Shenzhu Tang (Ginseng and Bamboo Decoction); two doses resulted in recovery.
This condition arises from wind-pathogenic toxic qi lodging in the skin and contending with blood and qi. Initially, it resembles blisters formed by scalding water; upon rupture, serum exudes forming sores. Treatment uses Dihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Shengma (Rhizoma Cimicifugae), Lanye (Folium Isatidis), Shanzhi (Fructus Gardeniae), and Dahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei), each 1 liang. Crushed, decocted with 8 liang of pig fat over mild and strong heat until the color changes, filtered to remove dregs, and stored in porcelain vessels. Apply to the affected area.
These lesions resemble millet grains, are red in color, and occur on the face. They frequently appear on the head and face during summer, or all over the body. Use Tianbao Caiwei Tang (Tianbao Herb-Gathering Decoction), equal parts, decocted and taken orally.
Caused by damp-heat contending with blood and qi, the sores initially appear small and fragmented, later developing pus, spreading and eroding to form ulcers. Use Xionghuang (Realgar), Cihuang (Orpiment), and Chuanwu (Radix Aconiti Kusnezoffii), each 1 liang, and Songxiang (Pini Resina) 3 qian, ground into powder. Burn a clump of loose hair to ash while preserving its properties. Melt 6 liang of pig fat, add the first three ingredients, and boil until the hair completely dissolves. Filter through cotton cloth to remove dregs, add Xionghuang and Cihuang, mix evenly, store in a vessel, and apply to the sores.
