Together. The excessive fire all returns to the child, thereby brewing the toxicity of smallpox, measles, scabies, and leprosy. However, it is necessary that the pregnant woman's constitution be tranquil, without forced intervention, but rather following practical assistance. If one forces compliance against her nature, then the stagnant fire will become even more intense. This, although on a completely different path from indulging desires without restraint, results in heat returning to the fetal breath in the same way. I have seen those eager for offspring who, upon becoming pregnant, immediately separate into different chambers, yet the child still dies of smallpox. Is this not clear evidence that forcing the fire makes it more intense? Human desires are manifold. If one cannot rise above the ordinary, one must also carefully understand the mother's feelings, adapting to her natural nature, so that the child's qi is peaceful and harmonious. This is what is called prenatal education (Taijiao). One should know that prenatal education is not limited to one aspect. If the mother is startled while carrying a child, the child often suffers from fetal fright (Taijing). If the mother harbors depression, the child often suffers from tubercles and flowing deposits (Jiehe Liuzhu). If the mother is fearful, the child often suffers from epilepsy (Dianxian). If the mother frequently entertains greedy and delusional thoughts, the child often becomes greedy and stingy. If the mother often harbors anger, the child often becomes violent and fierce. If the mother often engages in frivolous speech and deceitful behavior, the child often becomes deceptive and false. Not only after conception should one restrain body and mind, but also during intercourse, one must keep it light and pure, and surely avoid excess, so as not to leave troubles for the fetal breath. If conception occurs after heavy drunkenness, the sperm will carry much alcohol-dampness, and the child will often be infertile. If conception occurs after great anger, the sperm will carry much angry fire, and the child will often be perverse. If conception occurs after great fatigue, the sperm will lack true qi, and the child will often be weak. If hot medicines are used to aid sexual intercourse, or if one intentionally retains essence, the essence will circulate with toxic and fierce qualities, and the child will often suffer from strange diseases. As for conception during wind, rain, thunder, or lightning, being affected by shock qi, the child will often be of a strange kind. Speaking thus, during the Three Yuan and Five La festivals, one should strictly observe prohibitions. Birth and rearing will naturally be extraordinary. How can the important matter of continuing the family line be regarded as play?

The Classic says: "How do we know that a woman is about to give birth? She has symptoms of illness but no abnormal pulse." A woman with a double body (pregnant) becomes mute at nine months. This is because the pulse of the uterus-lining (Baoluo) is cut off. The uterus-lining is connected to the Kidney. The Shaoyin pulse passes through the Kidney and connects to the root of the tongue; therefore, she cannot speak. No treatment is needed. It will recover when the tenth month arrives. For a pregnant woman, how should toxic drugs be used? It is said: "If there is a disease (pathogen), there will be no injury [to the fetus], nor will there be injury [to the mother]."
This means that if there is such a disease, use such medicine. Although the drug is harsh and attacking, it can harm neither the fetal breath.
The *Jingui Yaolue* says: The Master said, "When a woman has a normal pulse, but the Yin pulse is slightly weak, and she is thirsty, unable to eat, without chills or fever, this is named pregnancy. Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) should be used." According to the method, these symptoms should appear around the sixtieth day. If a physician treats it incorrectly, causing vomiting and purgation a month earlier, then stop the treatment.
"Normal pulse" refers to a pulse indicating no disease. Only the Yin pulse is slightly weak due to insufficient Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi). Generally, when contracting pathogens with insufficient Ying Qi, there must be chills and fever. Now, with no chills or fever, but difficulty eating, we know it is pregnancy. During pregnancy, blood gathers and qi contends, menstruation stops, and by the sixtieth day, the fetus begins to form. At this time, Ying Qi merges with the fetal origin, while Stomach qi is insufficient, and fluids are sparingly distributed. Therefore, she is thirsty and unable to eat. Guizhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) should be used to harmonize Ying and benefit the Stomach. If a physician treats it otherwise, causing vomiting and purgation, this is Morning Sickness (Ezu). Then stop the treatment, meaning cease medical intervention and wait for her to settle naturally. Do not use drugs to further injure her Stomach qi. Lou Quanshan said: "I once treated a woman with morning sickness and vomiting. The more I treated, the worse it became. Reflecting on Zhongjing's principle of 'stopping treatment,' I stopped medication for over a month, and she recovered spontaneously."
If a woman has an existing mass (Ji Ju) disease, and menstruation has stopped for less than three months, yet she experiences continuous bleeding, and fetal movement is felt above the navel, this is a chronic affliction harming the fetus. If fetal movement occurs at six months of pregnancy, and menstruation was regular for the first three months, it is a true fetus. If bleeding occurs after menstruation stops for three months, it is due to the mass. The reason the bleeding does not stop is that the mass has not been removed. The mass should be purged. Guixin Fuling Wan (Cinnamon Heart and Poria Pill) should be used. "Existing chronic mass" means that when a woman menstruates and encounters cold, residual blood remains and forms a mass. However, women with masses often have them; if they do not obstruct the uterus, menstruation continues and conception occurs. Even though blood gathers to form a fetus, menstruation stops only after three months. Before three months pass, the mass disease moves again, leading to continuous bleeding. The mass is below, pressing on the fetus, hence called a chronic affliction harming the fetus. The fetus moves upward above the navel, unsettled. This is undoubtedly a true fetus. If it were a ghost fetus, it would belong to yin qi aggregation and would never move in a yang position. Now it moves above the navel, indicating the fetus is already six months old. We know that although menstruation was regular for the first three months, the fetus had formed. After three months, menstruation stopped, and blood accumulated to form the mass. Therefore, blood flows down continuously. Thus, Guixin (Cinnamon Heart), Fuling (Poria), Danpi (Moutan Cortex), and Taoren (Peach Seed) are used to dissipate the mass. Shaoyao (Peony Root) protects the Ying. Then the bleeding stops and the fetus is calmed. World editions make it Guizhi Fuling Wan (Cinnamon Twig and Poria Pill), which is a transcription error. Detailed analysis shows Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) has thin flavor and aroma, suitable only for releasing the exterior. One must take the heart of Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) to have the function of removing masses. An Chang said, "Cinnamon does not harm the fetus," do not doubt it hinders pregnancy. Observe the next section: for opening of the uterus, Fuzi Tang (Aconite Decoction) is used; for inverted bladder, Shenqi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill) is used. Both use Guizhi and Fuzi. This is what the *Neijing* calls "If there is a disease, there will be no injury." When a woman is pregnant for six or seven months, the pulse is wiry, she has fever, the fetus swells more, abdominal pain, aversion to cold, and the lower abdomen feels like a fan blowing. The reason is that the uterus is open. Fuzi Tang (Aconite Decoction) should be used to warm the uterus. A wiry pulse in pregnancy indicates deficiency-cold. Deficient yang scatters outward, causing fever. Yin-cold rebels inward, causing fetal swelling. Abdominal pain and aversion to cold indicate there is no yang inside. The uterus cannot govern the closure and storage functions, so one feels cold air blowing like a fan in the yin region. Using Fuzi Tang (Aconite Decoction) to warm the uterus will calm the fetus. People generally consider Fuzi (Aconite Root) the chief among drugs that cause abortion. Zhongjing alone uses it as a holy medicine for calming the fetus. Without divine understanding, no one dares to try it lightly.
The Master said: "Women may have continuous bleeding, or continuous bleeding after a miscarriage, or bleeding during pregnancy. If a pregnant woman has abdominal pain, it is called Bao Zu (Womb Obstruction). Jiao'ai Tang (Colla-Hogget Skin and Mugwort Decoction) should be used." Menstruation and conception both belong to the Chong and Ren vessels. Although Chong and Ren hold the intersection of yin and yang, functioning for the Liver and Kidney, the nourishment and growth of the fetus rely on Kun Earth (Spleen/Stomach). When yin and yang embrace, leakage does not occur; when Kun Earth acts as a dike, leaking does not happen. If there are chronic stasis and turbidity lodging in the Chong and Ren vessels, yin knots itself and cannot intersect with yang, causing occasional leakage or continuous bleeding after miscarriage. In general, fetal qi is formed internally by yang essence and nourished externally by yin blood. Now, yin blood knots itself, blocking the fetus, unable to harmonize. With only yin inside, it causes abdominal pain and bleeding. This is due to yin and yang failing to embrace, and Kun Earth failing to act as a dike. This formula treats all these. Xiong (Ligusticum) and Gui (Angelica Sinensis) circulate yang blood. Shao (Peony) and Di (Rehmannia) circulate yin blood. Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gel) is of flesh-and-blood quality, nourishing with similar substances. Gancao (Licorice Root) soothes the middle and resolves urgency. This formula regulates menstruation, stops leakage, calms the fetus, and nourishes blood. However, modifications must be appropriate. If the pulse is slow and moderate, yin exceeds yang, add Ganjiang (Dried Ginger). If the pulse is rapid and large, yang exceeds yin, add Huangqin (Scutellaria Root). This goes without saying. For a pregnant woman with abdominal pain, Danggui Shaoyao San (Angelica and Peony Powder) should be used.
This differs from Bao Zu pain. It is because Spleen Earth is overcome by Wood pathogen, grain qi does not rise, dampness overflows downward, stagnating yin blood and causing pain. Therefore, Shaoyao (Peony Root) is the sovereign herb to drain Liver and relieve stagnation. Xiong (Ligusticum) and Gui (Angelica Sinensis) are assistants to nourish blood and stop pain. Ling (Poria) and Ze (Alisma) seep out dampness and benefit the Spleen. Thus, we know that internal and external Six Evils (Pathogens) can all injure the fetus and cause pain, not just dampness.
For incessant vomiting during pregnancy, Jiangshen Renshen Banxia Wan (Ginger, Ginseng, and Pinellia Pill) should be used.
This is what later generations call Morning Sickness (Ezu). Initially, due to Spleen and Stomach weakness, fluids remain and accumulate as phlegm-fluids. After the second month of pregnancy, turbid yin rushes upward, the Middle Jiao cannot withstand the rebellion, phlegm-fluids surge, and middle-cold arises. Therefore, Jiang (Ginger) is used to stop cold, Renshen (Ginseng Root) to tonify deficiency, Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) and Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) to treat phlegm and scatter rebellion.
For difficult urination during pregnancy, with diet unchanged, Danggui Beimu Kushen Wan (Angelica, Coix Seed, and Sophora Pill - Note: Text says Beimu Kushen, usually interpreted as Fritillaria and Sophora) should be used.
This difficulty in urination is due to Bladder heat stagnation, qi condensing into dryness. The disease is in the Lower Jiao, so diet is unchanged. Danggui (Angelica Sinensis) is used to harmonize blood and moisten dryness. Beimu (Fritillaria Bulb) clears Lung and opens stagnation. Kushen (Sophora Root) benefits orifices and expels water, entering the Bladder to remove heat accumulation.
For edema during pregnancy, heaviness of body, difficult urination, shivering aversion to cold, dizziness upon rising, Kuizi Fuling San (Abelmoschus Seed and Poria Powder) should be used. Recovery occurs when urination becomes free.
The Bladder serves internally as the cavity, governing the storage of fluids, and qi transformation produces urine. Externally, it benefits meridians, ascending to the head, serving as the exterior of all yang. Now, Bladder qi does not transform, water and urine cannot exit externally, meridians are not benefited. Therefore, body heaviness, shivering aversion to cold, and dizziness upon rising occur. Only by benefiting urination will water depart, meridian qi flow, and exterior disease heal. Kuizi (Abelmoschus Seed) enters the Bladder directly to relieve retention. Fuling (Poria) assists in seeping fire pathways.
For pregnant women, Danggui San (Angelica Powder) should be taken regularly. Regular consumption leads to easy delivery, the fetus suffers no distress, and it treats all postpartum diseases.
The *Neijing* says: "Yin pulsation distinct from Yang is named having a child." The Chi pulse beating vigorously is due to the contention of qi and blood in the uterus manifesting in the pulse. Therefore, pregnancy blood cannot be static. Static blood coagulates and stagnates. Deficiency leads to emptiness, neither of which can combine with the fire that transforms the fetus. To ensure fetal gestation and transformation, one must first harmonize yin and yang, benefit qi and blood. Regularly taking fetal-nourishing drugs not only calms the fetus and eases delivery but also prevents various post-fetal ailments. Xiong (Ligusticum), Gui (Angelica Sinensis), and Shaoyao (Peony Root) calm the fetus and nourish blood. Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) tonifies the Stomach and nourishes the fetus. Blood outside the fetus stagnated by cold-dampness is resolved. Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) transforms vigorous fire and generates qi, making it a regular preparation. However, modifications should be based on pulse and syndrome deficiency/excess. Take it if sick; otherwise, it is unnecessary.
For nourishing the fetus during pregnancy, Baizhu San (Atractylodes Powder) should be used. If suffering pain, add Shaoyao (Peony Root). If severe pain in the epigastrium, double the amount of Xiong (Ligusticum). If irritability, vomiting, pain, inability to eat or drink, add Yixixin (Asarum) one qian, and twenty large Banxia (Pinellia Tuber). After taking, administer with vinegar-water. If vomiting, administer with vinegar-water. If still unresolved, administer wheat juice. If thirsty later, administer barley porridge. Even if the disease is cured, continue administration.
These four ingredients in this formula are all said in Materia Medica to remove bad blood. Why use them to nourish the fetus? Because blood gathers before forming the fetus. If slightly exposed to pathogens, the gathered blood becomes stagnant and untransported, resembling bad blood. One must clear the old before the fetus can be calmed. Nourishing the fetus is not only in the blood; the fetus is rooted in the Kidney, and nourishment also lies in the Stomach. Therefore, tonifying the Kidney and regulating the Stomach solidifies essence and harmonizes the middle. Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) regulates the Stomach. Qinjiao (Sichuan Pepper) opens obstruction. Once obstruction opens, yang essence arrives. Muli (Oyster Shell) treats metrorrhagia. Once metrorrhagia stops, yin essence is solidified. Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) descends into the Sea of Blood, moving fetal blood, breaking the old to generate the new. If yin blood is unfavorable and Liver Wood harms, causing suppression and pain inside, drain with the sour-cold of Shaoyao (Peony Root) to unblock yin. If rushing upward causes pain, disperse with the acrid-warm of Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) to unblock yang. If accompanied by stasis and evil qi rebelling upward to the Stomach, causing vomiting, irritability, and inability to eat, use Yixixin (Asarum) to warm the middle, resolve phlegm, and direct qi downward. Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) treats acute epigastric pain, harmonizes the Stomach, promotes eating, and stops vomiting. If vomiting persists, it is due to妄动 (reckless movement) of Liver Wood. Use wheat drink to nourish its original qi to calm it. Dama (Barley) primarily treats thirst, benefits qi, and harmonizes the middle. Therefore, it is used for middle qi deficiency and thirst.
Question: A woman is ill, diet is unchanged, but she has irritability and heat, cannot lie down, and instead leans on something to breathe. What is this? Master said: This is named Zhuanbao (Inverted Bladder/Womb), inability to urinate. Because the bladder ligament is twisted, this disease arises. Only by benefiting urination will it heal. Shenqi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill) should be used.
This formula, in consumptive disorders, treats lower back pain, abdominal tightness, and difficult urination. Here it treats Kidney deficiency causing Zhuanbao and inability to urinate. Both use this to benefit urination. The disease of Zhuanbao is when the womb resides in the room of the Bladder. Due to decline of qi in the Lower Jiao, water-dampness is in the middle, unable to transform and exit via qi. This causes the bladder to swell tightly, leading to continuous twisting, twisting the urinary ligament. Since water does not exit, meridian qi rebels, rushing upward to the Lung. Therefore, irritability, heat, inability to lie down, and leaning to breathe occur. Using this to tonify the Kidney allows qi transformation and water flow. Dampness departs, the womb does not twist, and the fetus is calmed. Although, does the disease of Zhuanbao arise entirely from Lower Jiao Kidney deficiency? Or Middle Jiao qi deficiency, where earth-dampness downward harms the womb? Or Upper Jiao Lung qi congestion, failing to transform in the Lower Jiao? Or the heavy fetus pressing on the womb? Or holding urine during intercourse? All these are sufficient to cause this disease. One must seek the cause in each case to treat it.
Pulse Differentiation: If a woman's menstruation has not come for two or three months, diagnose her pulse as slightly slippery and rapid, with no interruption. Although she has bodily symptoms, there is no abnormal pulse. It is not choppy, not hidden, not wiry and stiff. This is the fetal pulse. Method for distinguishing male and female: Ancients all believed left larger is male, right larger is female. However, many have constitutions naturally larger or smaller. Only if Cun Kou (Radial Artery at wrist) is slippery and substantial is male; Chi (Radial Artery deeper) is slippery and substantial is female. This is the most essential key. If both Cun are slippery and substantial, it is twin boys. If both Chi are slippery and substantial, it is twin girls. If Right Chi and Left Cun are slippery and substantial, it is one boy and one girl. This has been verified repeatedly. If the pulse is deep and fine, abdomen heavy with occasional slight pain, shape like holding a urn, full abdomen immobile, but only fluttering movement below the navel, cold to touch, and both Chi pulses suddenly large and small, present and absent, floating and sinking, moving and stopping, different morning and evening, this is a Ghost Fetus. Must observe continuously for three or four days to see. Tonify qi and invigorate blood. If pulse comes urgent like wind and rain, pausing briefly then returning as before, this is Yaksha Fetus. Also, Guan section slightly resembles sparrow-pecking shape. Also, size uneven, and under fingers wiry and stiff and discordant, all are omens of Yaksha Fetus. If pulse is deep and fine, waist and abdominal pain, fetus lying still, or feeling rushing up to heart and suffocation, cold to touch, this is not a good fetus. Further inspect tongue markings for cyanosis. This fetus is already dead. If lips are also cyanotic, even the mother cannot be saved. But if lying still, it may also be a good fetus. Take herbs to smooth qi and harmonize blood.
Fetal Verification: If a woman's menstruation has stopped for three months, and she wishes to verify if she is pregnant, take Sheng Chuanxiong (Raw Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome) two qian, powder it. Decoct strongly on an empty stomach. Mix with Mugwort decoction and take. Slight movement in the abdomen indicates a fetus.
Nourishing the Fetus: When a woman conceives for one month, the Foot Jueyin Meridian nourishes. Yin and yang newly combine, named Shi Pei (Initial Embryo). *Da Ji Jing* says: Fetus formed in seven days, initially no increase or decrease. Second seven days like thin curd. Third seven days like raw curd. Fourth seven days like cooked curd. Second month, Foot Shaoyang Meridian nourishes. Yin and yang reside in the meridian, named Shi Gao (Initial Paste). Fifth seven days like raw butter. Sixth seven days like polyp. Seventh seven days like piece of meat. Eighth seven days hard like broken shell. Third month, Hand Shaoyin (Pericardium) Meridian nourishes. Initially has definite form, named Shi Bao (Initial Cell). Ninth seven days changes to five bubbles. Two elbows, two thighs, and head. Seventeenth day, five more bubbles grow. Two wrists, two feet, and neck. Eleventh seventeen days, twenty-six more bubbles grow. Ten fingers, ten toes, eyes, ears, mouth, nose. Twelfth seven days, bubbles complete. Fourth month, Hand Taiyang (Sanjiao) Meridian nourishes. Begins receiving Water Essence to form blood vessels, and形体 (form) completes. Classic says: Thirteenth seven days, abdominal features appear. Fourteenth seven days, five Zang organs born. Fifteenth seven days, Large Intestine born. Sixteenth seven days, Small Intestine born. Fifth month, Foot Taiyin (Spleen) Meridian nourishes. Begins receiving Fire Essence to form qi, and limbs and joints fill. Classic says: Seventeenth seven days, spleen location appears. Eighteenth seven days, three stomachs born. Nineteenth seven days, palms, insteps, arm joints born. Twenty-seventh days, yin, umbilicus, chin, breasts born. Sixth month, Foot Yangming (Stomach) Meridian nourishes. Begins receiving Metal Essence to form sinews, and bone structure stands. Classic says: Twenty-first seven days, three hundred soft bones appear, like newborn gourd. Twenty-second seven days like unripe gourd. Twenty-third seven days hard like walnut. Twenty-fourth seven days, one hundred sinews born. Seventh month, Hand Taiyin (Lung) Meridian nourishes. Begins receiving Wood Essence to form bones, and hair grows. Classic says: Twenty-fifth seven days, seven thousand meridians born, not yet complete. Twenty-sixth seven days, like lotus root threads. Twenty-seventh seven days, three hundred sixty-three sinews. Twenty-eighth seven days, skin and flesh begin to grow. Eighth month, Hand Yangming (Large Intestine) Meridian nourishes. Begins receiving Earth Essence to form skin and leather, and zang-fu are complete. Classic says: Twenty-ninth seven days, skin slightly thick. Thirty-seventh days, skin image appears. Thirty-first seven days, skin turns thick and hard. Thirty-second seven days, leather transforms. Ninth month, Foot Shaoyin (Kidney) Meridian nourishes. Begins receiving Stone Essence to form hair and skin, and grain qi enters the stomach. Stone inherits the remainder of the five qi, zang-fu and bones are all solid, hence called Stone. Classic says: Thirty-third seven days, ears, nose, lips, fingers, knee joints form. Thirty-fourth seven days, nine hundred ninety thousand hair pores born, still not complete. Thirty-fifth seven days, pores complete. Thirty-sixth seven days, nails form. Tenth month, five zang organs are ready, six fu organs connect fully. Absorbs heaven and earth qi into the Dantian. Classic says: Thirty-seventh seven days, wind rises in the maternal womb, opening the seven orifices. Thirty-eighth seven days, according to past life good and evil, divides into fragrant and foul winds to determine appearance, bone structure, nobility, and baseness. The above *Qianjin* describes Xu Zhicai's method of nourishing the fetus, matching *Da Ji Jing*. Seeking details, conception in the maternal womb changes every seven days, transforming successively. However, many are born before term but can grow and live long years. This is because the nourishment of each meridian and the seven-day changes are not completed on schedule, but the qi nourishing the fetus is still pervasive. If meridian nourishment is not complete, it is always a miscarriage, not a full-term birth.
Morning Sickness: Menstruation stops for two or three months, spirit is as usual, likes sour, dislikes food, or craves one item, or vomits heavily, or occasionally vomits phlegm and clear fluid, limbs heavy, head and eyes dizzy. This is named Ezu (Morning Sickness). Do not treat as disease. Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) plus Wuyao (Aucklandiae Radix), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Jupi (Tangerine Peel). If coughing and thirsty, add Juhong (Tangerine Red), Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger). If chest is stuffy, limbs heavy, lethargic unable to stretch, dislikes smell of food, likes salty and sour, fetal movement unrest, vomiting and inability to eat, Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) plus Fuling (Poria), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Banxia (Pinellia Tuber). If phlegm stagnates in Zhongwan, Erchen Tang (Two Aged Decoction) plus Zhike (Aurantii Fructus). If food stagnation, Xiangsha Liujunzi Tang (Costus and Amomum Four Gentlemen Decoction) plus Zhike (Aurantii Fructus). If Spleen and Stomach weakness, Yigong San (Extraordinary Power Powder) plus Qi Nao (Anger), add Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Sharen (Amomi Fructus). If little desire for food, Liujunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) plus Zisu (Perilla Leaf), Jiegeng (Platycodon Root). Dizzy and tired, Liujunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction). If vomiting and inability to eat, double Ling (Poria) and Ban (Pinellia). Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) is the main herb for strengthening Spleen qi, resolving phlegm, and drying dampness. Nowadays, people think Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) has a property of disturbing the fetus, rarely using it, fearing its acrid dispersal when the fetus first forms. Lou Quanshan said: "I treated pregnancy obstruction disease, repeatedly using Banxia (Pinellia Tuber), never disturbing the fetus." *Qianjin* uses Banxia Fuling Tang (Pinellia and Poria Decoction) for two doses, then Fuling Wan (Poria Pill). Pregnant women loving sour is due to Liver deficiency, unable to nourish the Liver. Liver deficiency loves sour items. Dai Shi said: Ezu means a pregnant woman feels nauseous, obstructing her diet. Fat people have phlegm, Erchen Tang (Two Aged Decoction) plus Zhi (Immature Bitter Orange), Zhu (Atractylodes). Thin people have fire, Yigong San (Extraordinary Power Powder) plus Qin (Scutellaria), Lian (Coptis).
Fetal Movement: Frequent fetal movement. This is fetal qi heat, so it rebels upward causing panting. Urgently use Tiaohuangqin (Striped Scutellaria), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome). Abdominal fullness and pain piercing the heart, unable to eat. *Qianjin* uses Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizoma), Shaoyao (Peony Root) decocted and taken. Let slight water pass, then easy birth. Taking one dose monthly is good. Due to anger and the fetus...
