Zhongman Fenxiao Decoction: Treats middle-fullness and cold distension.
Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, 1 qian), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, 1 qian implied by context of grouping or standard dosage, text says "Shang si wei ju jiang zhi" referring to Banxia, Houpo, Huanglian, Huangbai; specific dosages for others follow later. Text lists: Banxia (1 qian), Houpo, Huanglian, Huangbai (these four all processed with ginger juice), Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix, prepared), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, prepared), Wuzhuyu (Evodiae Fructus, cleaned, using those with split caps, stir-fried), Caodoukou (Cardamomi Rotundus Fructus, stir-fried and crushed), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Renshen (Ginseng Radix, each 5 fen), Fuling (Poria, 1.5 qian), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 1.5 qian), Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 5 slices).
Decoct these ingredients in water. Take warm before meals. Strictly avoid sexual exertion, raw/cold foods, roasted/grilled items, alcohol, wheat products, fermented residues, vinegar, salt, and soy sauce. If accompanied by body heat, floating pulse, wheezing, and chest fullness indicating exterior syndrome, add Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 5 fen). If blood deficiency causes evening irritability and fever, add Danggui Shen (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) and Huangqi (Astragali Radix), each 5 fen. If yang qi sinks, causing dark and scanty urination, add Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) and Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix), each 3 fen. If spleen and stomach are deficient and cold, with undigested food, remove Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) and add Yizhiren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus), Bichengqie (Schweinfurthia Fruit), and Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), each 2 fen.
Zhongman Fenxiao Pill: Treats middle-fullness and heat distension.
Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) (these three all stir-fried with ginger juice), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (these two mixed with moisture and stir-fried until scorched), Gan Jiangsheng (Dried Ginger), Fuling (Poria), Zhuling (Polyporus), Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma), Renshen (Ginseng Radix) (each 5 qian), Gancao (Licorice Root, honey-fried, 1 qian).
Make pills using steamed dough soaked in decoction, size of wu-tong seeds. Take 100 pills per dose after meals, washed down with boiling water. If spleen and stomach qi stagnation leads to food accumulation and distension, add Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) and Sharen (Amomi Fructus), each 5 qian. If meridians have damp stagnation, with abdominal skin and leg/arm pain that cannot be touched, add Pianzi Jianghuang (Curcumae Longae Radix, sliced), 1 qian. If lung heat causes failure of qi transformation, with urinary retention, wheezing, and thirst, add Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), 3 qian.
Dong Yuan's Fenxiao Decoction and Pills: One primarily warms the middle and disperses stagnation; the other primarily clears heat and promotes urination. Investigating their formulation principles, they do not exceed the methods of "balancing and weighing" (Pingzhi Quanheng), "removing accumulated decay" (Qu Wan Chen Cuo), "opening the ghost gate" (Kai Guimen - sweating), and "cleaning the spirit mansion" (Jing Jifu - diuresis) from the *Neijing*. The "cold distension" mentioned refers to yin qi reversing and filling the lower jiao, stifling the yang qi of the middle jiao, presenting a false yin appearance. Therefore, although Aconitum (Wutou) is used for its acrid-hot nature to disseminate the five yangs as a guide to dispel yin pathogens, it is paired with the bitter-cold properties of Coptis (Lian) and Phellodendron (Bo) to descend and drain. Unless there is wind-water or skin distension with a floating pulse, where the syndrome originates from the exterior, who would dare lightly use the "opening the ghost gate" method to stir up the pervasive yin-cold? For heat distension, Scutellaria (Huangqin) is used for its light and ascending nature to descend lung heat, combined with Polyporus (Zhuling) and Alisma (Zexie) to promote drainage. Thus, the focus is solely on "cleaning the spirit mansion" (diuresis), without needing methods like "opening the ghost gate" or disseminating the five yangs.
Fuzi Jingmi Decoction (from *Jin Gui Yao Lue*): Treats cold qi in the abdomen, borborygmus like thunder, cutting pain, rebellious fullness in chest and abdomen, and vomiting.
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, processed with ginger juice, sliced), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, processed with ginger juice, stir-fried), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, each 3 qian), Dazao (Ziziphi Jujubae Fructus, 10 pieces, broken open), Jingmi (Oryza Sativa Germen, half sheng).
Take the above five ingredients, add five sheng of water, boil until the rice is cooked and the decoction is ready. Strain and take one sheng warm, three times a day. This is an excellent prescription. Alternatively, only use one ingredient, Aconitum processed with ginger juice, and cook it into porridge to eat.
Qianjin Weigen Decoction: Treats uneven stomach qi, frequent distension, cough, and inability to eat.
Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Renshen (Ginseng Radix), JuPi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (each 3 qian).
Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, 4 qian), Shujiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium, 1 he).
Chop the above nine ingredients, add nine sheng of water, boil to obtain three sheng. Divide into three doses.
