Clean earthworms (or maggots, contextually likely referring to a specific larval preparation or typo for another substance, but literally "fecal maggots") thoroughly with water, dry them in the sun, stir-fry lightly until powdered. Dosage: 3 qian; burn cicada slough (Maohe Yi) into ash. Dosage: 1.5 qian. Grind both uniformly together. Frequently insufflate the powder into the mouth. Effective.
Another prescription for treating dental gan and nasal gan: Renzhongbai (Calcined Human Urine Deposit), 1.5 qian; Maohe hui (Cicada Slough Ash) and Kufan (Alum) each 1 qian. Grind into fine powder. For moist lesions, apply dry powder directly; for dry lesions, moisten with sesame oil before application.
For oral gan causing ulceration and breakdown: Calcine Renzhongbai (Calcined Human Urine Deposit). Honey-roast Huangbo (Phellodendron Bark) until charred black. Use equal parts of both, add a small amount of Bingpian (Borneol). Grind into powder. After rinsing the mouth with salted tea water, apply the powder to the affected area.
For Zouma yagan (Rapidly progressing dental gan) characterized by gingival rot, blackening, and foul odor: Use accumulated scale from chamber pots over many years. Calcine until red-hot. Dosage: 1 liang. Ercha (Tectoridin) 5 qian; Huangbo (Phellodendron Bark), Bohe (Mint), Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis) each 1 qian; Bingpian (Borneol) 3 fen. Grind into fine powder. Rinse mouth with warm water first, then insufflate the medicine onto the gan lesion. Apply 6-7 times daily. If saliva flows out during insufflation, it is a auspicious sign indicating toxin expulsion. If saliva remains inside the mouth, the toxin has penetrated inward, which is difficult to treat.
To treat gan erosion destroying the mouth and nose, causing extreme suffering: Take Haizhong zibeizi (Purple Shell from the Sea), commonly known as Yaluo. Calcine in charcoal fire, grind into powder. Mix with lard from the twelfth lunar month for topical application.
To treat dental gan ulceration leading to perforated lips and broken tongue: Also treats oral ulcers. Chuanhuanglian (Coptis Rhizome) 5 fen; Danfan (Chalcanthite) and Ercha (Tectoridin) each 1.5 qian. Grind into fine powder and apply topically.
Burn dried Bufo bufo gargarizans (Toad skin/body) into ash: 3 qian; Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome): 2 qian; Qingdai (Indigo Naturalis): 1 qian; Shexiang (Musk): 5 li. Grind into powder. First rinse with Licorice Decoction (Gancao Tang), then apply. Excellent effect.
For swollen eyelids, abdominal distension, and dysentery with variable stool color: Take one sheng of fresh sheep dung. Add one sheng of water. Soak overnight. Squeeze out the juice early next morning. Administer in one dose. Eat only at noon. For extremely critical cases, three doses will result in recovery.
Vomiting with sound and matter expelled is called Ou (Vomit); expelling matter without sound is called Tu (Regurgitate/Emit). These syndromes can be Cold, Heat, or Food Stagnation. However, both Cold and Heat syndromes often stem from Food Stagnation, ultimately belonging to the Stomach Meridian. Additionally, symptoms such as milk overflow, choking on milk, and hiccuping resemble vomiting but should not be treated as vomiting. There are also syndromes of Cold-Heat rejection/blockage, and vomiting caused by worm pain. Symptoms and treatments are detailed in *Youyou Jicheng* (Complete Works on Pediatrics). In treating pediatric vomiting, reduce milk and food intake. When vomiting is accompanied by thirst, do not give tea or water, as ingesting water may trigger further vomiting. The child must endure thirst for one to two hours, then administer rice soup, after which vomiting will cease naturally.
