Treats conditions caused by contracting summerheat pathogenic qi, characterized by steaming heat in the skin, headache with a heavy sensation in the head, or irritability and thirst, or vomiting and diarrhea.
Xiangru (Moslae Herba, one tael) Nongpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, stir-fried with ginger juice) Biandou (Lablab Seed, stir-fried, five qian) Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma, stir-fried with ginger, three qian). Take cold. (Xiangru is pungent and warm, aromatic and dispersing; it enters the Qi aspect of the Spleen and Lung meridians, promotes the emergence of Yang Qi, and dissipates the steaming heat in the skin. Nongpo is bitter and warm; it resolves dampness and dispels fullness, thereby relieving cardiac irritability.)
Removing Biandou yields the formula Huanglian Xiangru Yin (Coptis and Mosla Decoction). It treats severe summerheat stroke with excessive heat, thirst, irritability, or passage of fresh blood. (Caused by the oppression of summerheat pathogens.) Adding Fushen (Poria with Hostwood) treats Dan Nue (Malaria with high fever).
Clears summerheat qi, relieves irritability and thirst. Stops vomiting, diarrhea, cholera-like syndrome, and injuries due to improper diet and alcohol consumption during the summer months.
Biandou (Stir-fried and ground) Gange (Puerariae Radix, two taels) Sharen (Amomi Fructus) Caoguo (Tsaoko Fructus, roasted and peeled) Wumei (Mume Fructus) Gancao (Glycyrrhzae Radix et Rhizoma, honey-fried, four taels). Take four qian per dose.
Summerheat inevitably combines with dampness, and dampness belongs to the Earth element of the Spleen. When summerheat and dampness combine as pathogens, the Spleen and Stomach become diseased; therefore, treating summerheat requires first resolving dampness. Sharen and Caoguo are pungent, aromatic, and warm-dispersing, benefiting... [Text fragmentary].
Treats exposure to summerheat with latent heat within, excessive drinking, dampness affecting the Spleen and Stomach, inability to differentiate food and water, mixing of clear and turbid qi, reversal of Yin and Yang qi, resulting in cholera-like syndrome with vomiting and diarrhea, and gastrointestinal dysfunction.
Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma) Gui (Cinnamomi Ramulus) Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, skin and tip removed) Gancao (Glycyrrhzae Radix et Rhizoma) in equal parts. First stir-fry Gancao with white sand, then add Ginger and Almonds, stir-fry, sieve to remove sand cleanly, and mix... [Text fragmentary].
In summer months, excessive consumption of cold drinks and chilled foods prevents Yang Qi from extending and emerging, causing Qi reversal leading to cholera-like syndrome with vomiting and diarrhea. The Spleen and Stomach prefer dryness and dislike dampness; they prefer warmth and dislike cold... [Text fragmentary].
Treats diarrhea caused by latent summerheat, with body heat and weak pulse.
See the formula in the Appendix of Bu Huo Wan (Tonify Fire Pill) under the Qu Han Men (Expel Cold Section), Volume VI, Lower Part.
Treats summerheat stroke with latent heat, irritability, thirst with desire to drink, vomiting, hiccups, nausea, dizziness, and vertigo.
Pipaye (Eriobotryae Folium, hairs removed and stir-fried) Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, albedo removed and baked) Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos) Nongpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, skin removed and stir-fried with ginger juice, five qian) Baimaogen (Imperatae Rhizoma) Maimendong (Ophiopogonis Tuber) Ganmugua (Chaenomelis Fructus). Take cold, mixed with warm water for administration.
