(Zhu Danxi) Treats convulsions caused by wind deficiency, with unconsciousness and confusion, or alternating chills and fever. (Tendon contraction is called "chi", relaxation is called "zong". Continuous contraction and relaxation are called "chi zong", commonly known as "chu", which represents the image of wood bending and straightening. When liver blood is deficient and wind pathogen takes advantage, entering the blood vessels causes convulsions; if in the skin, it manifests as chills and fever. If the pathogen transfers to its generating organ, confusion and unconsciousness occur. The generating organ is the heart, as wood generates fire.)
Du Huo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Xi Xin (Asari Radix), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Bai Wei (Cynanchi Atrati Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Xiong Duan (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Fu Shen (Poria Cum Radix), Yuan Zhi (Polygalae Radix), Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma).
The liver belongs to wind-wood and governs the tendons, thus convulsions are due to liver pathogen. The liver desires dispersion; urgently consume pungent substances to disperse it. Qiang Huo, Du Huo, and Fang Feng dispel wind; Xi Xin and Gui Xin warm the meridians, thereby stabilizing the condition.
Treats various wind syndromes causing tidal convulsions, hand and foot spasms, constipation, sudden severe evil heat, muscle twitching and creeping, and all wind syndromes.
Formula seen in Volume 5, Section on Exterior and Interior.
Treats various wind-heat syndromes.
Formula seen in Volume 5, Section on Exterior and Interior, within the supplementary formula for Fang Feng Tong Sheng San.
(From *Qian Jin Fang*) Treats deficiency-heat of liver and kidney, internal attack by wind-dampness, pain in waist and knees, cold bi syndrome with weakness, difficulty in flexion and extension. (Liver governs tendons, Kidney governs bones. *Ling Shu* states: Ability to flex but not extend indicates pathology in tendons; ability to extend but not flex indicates pathology in bones.)
Du Huo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix), Sang Ji Sheng (Taxilli Herba) (If genuine is unavailable, substitute with Xu Duan [Dipsaci Radix]), Qin Jiao (Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix), Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Xi Xin (Asari Radix), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (washed with wine), Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) (stir-fried with wine), Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Shu Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex), Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma). Take four qian per dose.
Du Huo and Xi Xin enter the Shaoyin meridian and unblock blood vessels. Accompanied by Qin Jiao and Fang Feng, they unblock meridians and raise yang to dispel wind. Sang Ji Sheng benefits qi and blood, dispelling wind-dampness. Accompanied by Du Zhong, etc., with acrid-warm nature, efficacy is assured.
Treats stroke leading to spleen flaccidity, stiff tongue unable to speak, hemiplegia.
Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata), Tian Ma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Zao Ren (Ziziphi Spinosae Semen) (one qian), Ling Yang Jiao (Capricornis Cornu) (shaved), Guan Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex) (eight fen), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) (five fen). Add Zhu Li (Bambusae Sap) two he to decoct.
Yu Jiayan stated: This formula treats the syndrome of wind entering the spleen organ, resulting in a stiff tongue and inability to speak. Regarding the Shaoyin meridian circling the root of the tongue, where kidney deficiency allows wind entry causing inability to speak...
