(Yan's) Treats nasal polyps, where breathing is obstructed and the sense of smell is lost. (The nose is the orifice of the Lung; when Qi is clear, the nasal passage is patent; when Qi is hot, nasal congestion occurs. When damp-heat is excessive and steams at the gate of the Lung, polyps grow. This is like mushrooms growing on wet land exposed to heat.)

Grind equal parts into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, mixed with tea water.
The Classics state: Heaven's Qi connects through the nose. If there is no phlegm-fire or accumulated heat in the Stomach, what rises normally is clear Qi. Due to internal burning of damp-fire and external constraint by wind-cold...
(Chen Wuzhe) Treats "Chanhou Feng" (strangling throat wind) bi syndrome, characterized by redness and swelling of the throat and difficulty swallowing. Or due to stagnation of wind-phlegm, sores on the mouth and tongue, alcohol toxicity in adults, milk obstruction in infants, and bone fragments stuck in the throat.

(Qianjin Fang) Treats Kidney Heat, manifesting as purulent bloody discharge from the ears and deafness. (The ear is the orifice of the Kidney; the tongue is the orifice of the Heart. Since the tongue is not a hollow orifice, the Heart also寄居 [resides] its orifice function in the ear. Among the Twelve Meridians, except for the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian and Hand-Jueyin Pericardium Meridian, the other ten meridians enter and connect with the ear. The Kidney governs the Yin within, and the Heart governs the Yang outside. Clear, pure, and bright Qi ascends to the hollow orifices, enabling hearing. If these two meridians are disharmonious, and Yin-Yang is unbalanced, or if fatigue causes Yin deficiency, or Wei Qi... Blood...

Cishi is heavy, pungent and salty in taste, black in color; it tonifies the Kidney and dispels heat, unblocking the ears and improving vision, thus serving as the Sovereign herb. Muli is salty and cold, softening phlegm and breaking accumulations. Shengdi (Rehmanniae Radix) is greatly cold... and the ear... all can... prevent water... herbs...
