People in the Min (Fujian) and Guang (Guangdong) regions place various insects in a vessel, allowing them to devour each other. The one that remains after all others have been consumed is called Gu (Gu poison). Contracting its toxin results in yellowish swelling of the face and eyes, abdominal distension and pain, or vomiting of bloody saliva; if prolonged, it leads to death. Upon initial infection, decoct one stick of Gleditsia sinensis Fruit (Zaojiao) and two liang of Chui Gen (Caulis Bambusae in Taeniam) in water to obtain two cups of concentrated juice, taken before sleep. The following morning, after expelling the toxic matter, consume five pieces of Wansui Teng Root (Radix Clematidis Armandii) wrapped in wet paper and baked until cooked, chewed on an empty stomach and washed down with raw sesame oil. The toxin will be excreted via stool within three days. Anyone traveling to Sichuan and Guangdong should use silver chopsticks for daily meals; if the chopsticks remain white, there is no harm; if they turn black, it indicates toxicity.
There is Fetal Epilepsy (Tai Xian), contracted while in the womb when the mother suffers a fright, causing the shock qi to impact the fetus, resulting in illness after birth. During attacks, the patient falls down and vomits frothy saliva; Yan Shou Dan (Longevity Pill) can be administered, and it will heal spontaneously over time. There is Qi Epilepsy (Qi Xian), caused by anger or excessive thinking. It requires moxibustion at the Zhongwan (CV12) acupoint for cure. (Fetal epilepsy originates in the womb, commonly known as "three convulsions lead to epilepsy." Qi epilepsy arises from the seven emotions; thus, those recovering from severe illnesses, those burdened by sorrow, and those who are willful and gluttonous are prone to this condition. Although medical texts classify it by Yin-Yang and the Five Zang Organs, few grasp the essence, resulting in few cures. This method of the Master hits the mark directly; I have had many successes using it.)
Clinical Cases:
One person suffered from epilepsy for over three years and was cured after fifty moxa cones were applied to the Zhongwan (CV12) acupoint.
A woman suffered from epilepsy for ten years and was also cured after fifty moxa cones were applied to the Zhongwan (CV12) acupoint. For this disease, only moxibustion yields rapid results; herbal medicine cannot compare.
This condition (Scrofula/Lymphatic Tuberculosis) arises from worry, thought, and anger. The Shaoyang meridian runs along the hypochondrium, around the neck, and circles the ears; this represents the stagnation of Shaoyang Liver and Gallbladder qi. Alternatively, it may result from rat saliva falling into food, which, upon ingestion, generates what is called Rat Scrofula (Shu Li). The treatment for both involves applying fifteen moxa cones directly onto the ulcerated area, followed by applying Baihua Gao (Hundred Flowers Ointment) mixed with raw sesame oil topically, and internally administering formulas to soothe the Liver and regulate Qi. With time, it will naturally resolve. One must absolutely avoid using Mylabris (Banmao), Calcined Alum (Duanshi), or Arsenic Trioxide (Pishuang). (As stated in *Neijing*, sinking into the vessels causes scrofula, lingering in the muscle layers. This is wind-pathogen affecting the meridians externally, stagnating in the flesh and interstices, representing a mild external contraction. As stated in *Lingshu Jing*, injury to the Kidney allows water-toxin qi to ascend, forming Rat Scrofula. If untreated, it often leads to death, representing a severe internal injury.)
