[Zhong Qi (Stroke due to Qi Stagnation)] As discussed previously. After regaining consciousness, administer Suheli Wan (Suheli Pill) mixed with ginger juice via gavage. Subsequently, use Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried), Fuling (Poria), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), Wuyao (Linderae Radix) (each 1 qian), and Gancao (Licorice Root, 0.5 qian). Decoct in water and take warm (or divide into two doses). If it is indeed a stroke disease, remove Renshen. First advance this formula to regulate Qi, then advance wind-dispelling medicines; this is also an excellent method. This is the Bawei Shunqi San (Eight-Ingredient Powder to Regulate Qi).
[Zhong Tan (Stroke due to Phlegm)] Cold-phlegm confuses the chest and heart, causing sudden collapse and falling, drooling from the corners of the mouth, cold limbs, and a deep, slippery pulse. Mix Baifan (Alumen, 2 qian) with ginger juice and administer via gavage. If ineffective, use Yazao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus, skin and strings removed, roasted to powder, 1 qian) and Lili (Veratrum Nigrum Rhizoma, 0.5 fen). Grind both into fine powder. Take 0.5 fen per dose, washed down with Dengxin Cao (Junci Medullae Decoction). Vomiting out the stubborn phlegm leads to awakening. Subsequently, administer Daotan Tang (Phlegm-Draining Decoction), containing Chenpi, Jiang Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma prepared with ginger juice), Fuling, Zhike (Aurantii Fructus, stir-fried), Nanxing (Arisaematis Rhizoma prepared with ginger juice) (each 1 qian), Gancao (0.5 fen), plus 5-7 slices of Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger). Decoct in water and take. On the Dragon Boat Festival, collect Baixiaoxianhua (Impatiens balsamina flower), soak it in Sha Jiu (Baijiu/Liquor), seal tightly. Regardless of how much time has passed, when encountering this syndrome, take one cup warm; the phlegm will dissolve immediately.
[Zhong Han (Stroke due to Cold)] The body is stiff and straight, the jaw is locked and speechless, limbs tremble, there is aversion to cold with shivering, the pulse is floating and tight, and there is no sweat. Use Re Jiu (Hot Wine) and Jiang Zhi (Ginger Juice), half a zhan each, and administer via gavage to awaken the patient. Alternatively, use 2 jin of raw Cong Bai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus), cut off roots and leaves, tie into two bundles with rope. First, place one bundle in an empty pot to heat (do not use water). While hot, place it on the patient's navel for moxibustion-like warming. Then place the second bundle in the pot. When the first bundle cools, replace it. Repeat this several times. When the patient smells the scallion aroma, they will awaken. This method is best. Alternatively, use Ai Wan (Moxa Pills) the size of a bean, placed between slices of Da Suan (Garlic) to moxa the Qihai Acupoint (CV6, 1.5 cun below the umbilicus). The number of moxa cones is unrestricted, stopping when warmth is felt by hand. After awakening, subsequently take Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma), Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) (each 1-2 qian, adjusted according to severity), assisted by Mahuang (Ephedrae Herba, 0.5 fen). Decoct in water and take. Or take Jiawei Lizhong Tang (Modified Lizhong Decoction) [Note: Text cuts off here, implying the standard ingredients of this formula].
[Zhong Shi (Stroke due to Food Retention)] After excessive dietary injury, or due to contracting wind-cold and emotional anger, leading to blockage in the chest and stagnation of Stomach Qi, the pulse is tight and vigorous. Symptoms resemble stroke, possibly including hemiplegia and convulsions of hands and feet. First, crush Luobo Zi (Brassicae Semens) and mix with warm water, stirring well. Take the weak decoction slowly. Soon, vomiting will occur (Even if not all pathogen is vomited, it can still descend). Alternatively, take a small amount of Yan Yan (Halitum), stir-fry in a hot pan until red, add water, boil until nearly boiling, stir well. Drink the weak salt soup slowly to induce vomiting, stopping when the pathogen is expelled. Subsequently use Pingwei San (Stomach-Pacifying Powder), containing Namu (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex, stir-fried with ginger juice), Chenpi (each 1 qian), Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, soaked overnight in rice wash water, sliced, stir-fried 1.5 qian), Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice Root, 0.6 fen). Adjust as needed, decoct in water and take. Treating this with wind-dispelling medicines will cause death.
[Zhong Yin Du (Stroke due to Yin Toxin)] After sexual exertion, contracting wind-cold, feeling heavy suddenly, cold limbs, abdominal pain with cold sweat, cyanotic nails and complexion, six pulses are all deep, and the two Chi pulses are hidden. This is Yin Toxin. Use Ai Wan (Moxa Pills) the size of a bean, placed between slices of Da Suan to moxa the Qihai Acupoint (CV6, 1.5 cun below umbilicus) and Guanyuan Acupoint (CV4, 3 cun below umbilicus). Moxa each point 100 cones, stopping when hands and feet become warm. Subsequently take Qiangfu Tang (Qianghuo and Aconite Decoction), containing Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Fuzi (prepared), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, roasted), Huixiang (Foeniculi Fructus) (each 1 qian), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, 0.5 fen), plus 2 Hei Zao (Black Dates). Decoct in water and take.
[Zhong E (Stroke due to Evil Spirits/Cholera-like Syndrome)] Often occurs after using the toilet at night or going to places where pedestrians do not go. Suddenly seeing ghosts, collapsing stiffly, cold limbs, fists clenched, severe cases have bleeding from nose and mouth, but the heart and abdomen remain warm. Whenever encountering this syndrome, do not move the patient. Immediately have people surround them, beat drums, and burn fires. Or burn Zijin Ding (Purple Gold Tablet), Tanxiang (Santalum Album Lignum), Suhexiang (Styrax Resina), Zhangmu (Cinnamomi Camphora Cortex) etc. Wait until the patient regains consciousness before moving them back. Crush fresh Changpu Gen (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma) and squeeze out the juice, instill into mouth and nose to awaken. Alternatively, grind Zijin Ding and administer. Or use Xihuang (Calculus Bovis, 5 qian, finely chopped), Shexiang (Moschus), Zhusha (Cinnabar) (each 2.5 qian). Grind all into fine powder, mix with water, and take 2 qian. For any case of spirit possession where the patient does not wake up quickly, use Ai Wan (Mozambique Moxa) the size of wheat to moxa the Renzhong Acupoint (GV26). One cone awakens the patient. Alternatively, moxa seven cones at each location on the big toes, one broad leek leaf away from the nail bed; this is also effective.
