Epidemic red eye is caused by epidemic pathogenic factors (infectious exogenous heat pathogens). Astringency and pain in the eyes, with involvement of the pupils, indicate an aggravation of Liver Heat. When wind-toxin invades again causing nebulae (opacities on the cornea), taking Xigan San (Liver-Washing Powder) restores visual clarity. When redness is pale, cooling is preferable; healing is achieved through washing the Heart and removing blood. Why is bloodletting at the Taiyang acupoint (Ex-HN5, located at the temple) clever? There are differences in the timing of applying eye drops.
This is a heat syndrome where pathogenic factors lodge in the Liver Meridian. It is suitable to take Xiaodu San (Detoxification Powder), Liangan San (Cooling-Liver Powder), and Huoxue San (Blood-Invigorating Powder).

Pathogenic heat from the Heart and Liver fails to communicate; the struggle between Blood and Qi causes intolerable pain. Sudden redness generates wind and membrane formation, causing endless tears when viewing objects. Examine the Five Viscera, wash away Liver wind, and do not allow the Ministerial Fire of the Heart Meridian to flourish excessively. Do not frequently wipe your hands/eyes casually, to avoid encountering complications such as trichiasis (in-turned eyelashes).
This is caused by the Liver Meridian being affected by wind-heat. It is suitable to take Fangfeng San (Saposhnikovia Powder), Xixin San (Washing-Heart Powder), and Xiaodu San (Detoxification Powder).
Taifeng Chilan Tu (Diagram of Congenital Wind Red Ulceration)

After birth, let the infant be natural; unclean bathing leads to disease. By one to three or five years of age, red and ulcerated eyes must avoid wind pathogens. This is white opacity generated by fetal toxin, with continuous tearing and red, swollen, ulcerated eyelid margins. It is suitable to take Yandian San (Rock Lightning Powder) and Huoxue San (Blood-Invigorating Powder), and apply Huanglian Gao (Coptis Ointment) to the eyes.
Fengchi Chuangyi Tu (Diagram of Wind-Induced Red Sores)
Song: Xijiang Yue (West River Moon)
The upper and lower eyelids are red like sunset clouds; the sores and heat stem from wind pathogens. If untreated for a long time, nebulae will obscure vision. When no treatment works, the disease ceases. Properly use Bixia San (Jade Cloud Powder) for washing; the physician's skill is praiseworthy. Applying Huanglian Gao (Coptis Ointment) leads to recovery, leaving the eyeballs flawless.
This is heat in the Spleen Meridian combined with wind-pathogen invasion. It is suitable to take Qufeng San (Wind-Expelling Powder) and Xiaodu San (Detoxification Powder), and it is suitable to treat using manual needling and cauterization techniques.
