The Wind Wheel corresponds to Wood in the Five Elements, is associated with the Liver (Gan) in the Zang organs, and manifests as the cornea/pupil area (Wu Jing) in the eye.
Question: How does the Wind Wheel become diseased? Answer: Frequent mood swings of anger and joy, or excessive mental and physical labor, gazing at various objects in clouds and fog for long periods, reading scriptures under lamplight. Once ocular energy is exhausted, internal damage occurs to the Wind Wheel, resulting in symptoms such as dryness and pain in the eyes, globe pain, blurred vision, dizziness, and a sensation of tightness and tension in the eyes. If left untreated for a long time, it leads to dim and hazy vision and difficulty seeing small details. Question: How should it be treated? Answer: According to Materia Medica, treatment should target the Liver based on symptoms, as excessive Liver Qi attacks the Wind Wheel; it is appropriate to take Lingyangjiao San (Antelope Horn Powder).
Lingyangjiao (Antelocornis Cornu, Antelope Horn) (ground into fine powder, 5 qian), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Ginseng Root) (1 qian), Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Fructus, Chinese Tamarind Fruit) (0.5 liang, soaked in honey), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix, Divaricate Saposhnikovia Root) (5 qian), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, Licorice Root) (5 qian), Caowu (Aconiti Radix, Aconite Root) (1 liang, used raw), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma, Szechwan Lovage Rhizome) (1 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with decoction prepared from Muzei (Equiseti Herba, Horsetail Herb) and Gancao (Licorice Root), taken three times daily. Avoid cold and raw foods.
Poem: The East belongs to Wood, Wood generates Wind; In the Zang organs it is the Liver, opening to the Eyes connecting through. Uneven hunger and fullness generate Heat-Toxin; Eye pain with nebula primarily invades the Pupil.
The Blood Wheel corresponds to Fire in the Five Elements, is associated with the Heart (Xin) in the Zang organs, and manifests as the inner and outer canthi (Da Xiao Zi) in the eye.
Question: How does the Blood Wheel become diseased? Answer: Worry, overthinking, sorrow, joy, and vexation cause internal injury to the Heart, leading to the formation of red blood vessels (Chi Jin), white membranes obscuring the pupil, dim and hazy vision that is difficult to open. If left untreated for a long time, it eventually leads to blindness. Question: How should it be treated? Answer: According to Materia Medica, treatment should regulate the Heart based on symptoms, as Heat from Heart Blood attacks the Blood Wheel; it is appropriate to take Dihuang Wan (Rehmannia Pill).
Shengdihuang (Rehmanniae Radix, Rehmannia Root) Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, Large-headed Atractylodes Rhizome), Qingxiangzi (Celosiae Semen, Celosia Seed), Shanzhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, Gardenia Fruit), Jingjie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica, Schizonepeta Spike), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Dong Quai Root), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis, Akebia Stem), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, Scutellaria Root).
Grind equal parts into a fine powder, form pills using refined honey. Take 30 pills per dose, delivered with decoction made from Dan Zhuye (Lophatheri Herba, Lophatherum Herb); delivery with sugar water is also acceptable.
Poem: Heart Fire is in the South, belonging to Bing and Ding; Hot Wind flows in and stops within the Zang organs. Head and eyes are red and dry; Distant vision appears like scattered broken stars.
