Treats spleen deficiency with excessive phlegm-dampness and poor appetite; the effect is excellent!
Shenqu (Semina Moutardi Fermentatum, half a jin, ground into powder, kneaded with jujube pulp to form cakes, dried, then slow-roasted) Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum, half a jin, ground into powder, kneaded with fresh ginger juice to form cakes, dried, then slow-roasted)
Grind the above two ingredients together into a fine powder. Form pills with jujube pulp, sized like sophora seeds. Take fifty pills per dose, administered with ginger decoction, at any time.
This is the formula of Zhao Congjian.
Baifuling (Poria, equal parts) Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum, washed seven times with boiling water)
Divide the above two ingredients equally. Cut each into pieces the size of small beans. Weigh three qian per dose. Add one and a half sheng of water and ten slices of fresh ginger. Decoct until one-seventh remains. Strain and take the liquid.
Fang Shao, courtesy name Rensheng, author of *Bozhai Bian*, discussed that treating phlegm should prioritize tangerine peel, specifically using authentic aged tangerine peel from Dongting Mountain. His formula uses one jin of peeled red tangerine peel (pericarpium citri reticulatae), four liang of licorice root, and four liang of salt, with five bowls of water. Slowly boil, dry, grind into fine powder, and take as a suspension. Additionally, an ancient formula uses four liang of red tangerine peel and one liang of honey-fried licorice root, ground into powder and taken with hot water, named Erxian Tang (Two Sages Decoction). It is highly effective for treating phlegm. Physicians of the world only know how to use Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum), Nanxing (Rhizoma Arisaematis), Zhishi (Fructus Aurantii Immaturus), and Fuling (Poria), which are insufficient to discuss this method. My father-in-law, Mo Qiangzhong, took this formula. He experienced abdominal pain and passed several lumps resembling iron pellets in his stool, which had an unbearable foul odor. His chronic condition of postprandial chest fullness was suddenly and completely cured!
Xixin (Herba Asari, equal parts) Baifuling (Poria, equal parts) Baizhu (Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, equal parts) Renshen (Radix Ginseng, equal parts) Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata, honey-fried, equal parts) Ganjiang (Rhizoma Zingiberis Preparatum, processed, equal parts) Wuweizi (Fructus Schisandrae Chinensis, three liang)
Prepare as a decoction. Take three qian per dose. Add one large sheng of water. Decoct until eight-tenths remains. Strain and take before meals.
For conditions occurring at specific times where other medicines have been ineffective.
Dingxiang (Flos Caryophylli, two and a half qian) Zhike (Fructus Aurantii, stir-baked with bran until yellow, two and a half qian) Muxiang (Radix Aucklandiae, two and a half qian) Banxia (Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparatum, washed seven times with boiling water, equal parts) Suasharen (Fructus Amomi Rotundus, equal parts) Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, white pith removed, equal parts) Baifuling (Poria, half a liang)
Coarsely powder the above seven ingredients. Take four daqian per dose. Add one and a half sheng of water. Decoct until eight-tenths remains. Take hot before meals. This can eradicate the root cause.
Treats rebellious qi due to phlegm-fluid retention, loss of appetite, difficult urination, heavy head, and dizziness. This is the formula of Vice Director Chang Zizhong, transmitted by Knowledge Director Feng Zhongrou.
Baifuling (Poria, equal parts) Wuzhuyu (Fructus Evodiae Preparatus, soaked in hot water, foam removed, equal parts)
Grind the above two ingredients equally into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills sized like sophora seeds. Take thirty pills per dose, at any time, swallowed with warm water or wine. The Vice Director suffered from phlegm-fluid retention. After eating cold food to fullness, or during changes in cloudy and rainy seasons, it typically recurred every ten days, accompanied by headache, coldness in the back, vomiting of sour fluid, followed by days of bedridden inappetence. After taking this, it never recurred again. Whenever he ate too much and felt abdominal fullness, taking fifty to seventy pills would result, within two or three hours, in urine carrying the scent of evodia, which was expelled through urination. Many previous phlegm-treating medicines were used, none compared to this. Yang Meiqing’s formula simply soaks evodia in wine for three nights, mixes it with fine powder of poria, dries it, and takes over a hundred pills per dose, administered with decoction or wine.
