Huangdi said: In cases of wind-stroke accompanied by falls from a height, evil blood (stasis) remains inside. If accompanied by great anger, causing qi to ascend and fail to descend, accumulating in the hypochondrium will damage the Liver. Additionally, wind-stroke combined with being struck or fallen, or sexual intercourse after intoxication, with sweat exposed to wind, will damage the Spleen. Furthermore, regarding headache where acupuncture points should not be selected at [missing character], it is due to injury from being struck and fallen, with evil blood stagnating internally. While pain persists, acupuncture can be used, but distant points should not be selected.
When falling from a height, evil blood remains internally, regardless of which of the twelve meridians it affects. The sages attribute this to wind invading the Liver meridian, remaining in the hypochondrium, and treat it using formulas for wind-stroke. Blood is governed by the Liver; evil blood returns to the Liver. Regardless of which meridian is injured, it must remain in the hypochondrium because the Liver governs blood. Severe pain inevitably leads to spontaneous sweating; however, any sweating is considered a wind syndrome. All pains belong to the Liver meridian. Moreover,败血 (decayed blood) condenses and follows its corresponding organ, entering the Liver. Falling from a height reverses the flow of blood and qi upwards; who else but the Liver? Cold damage disease presents without sweat; since there is now spontaneous sweating, it must have transformed into wind-heat. Treat with herbs that break blood and unblock meridians. The Gallbladder and Liver meridians both traverse the hypochondrium and belong to the Jueyin and Shaoyang channels respectively. It is appropriate to use Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) as the guiding herb and sovereign drug, Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) to invigorate blood vessels as the minister drug. Urgency refers to pain; Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) relieves urgency and also generates new blood, following the principle that yang generates yin. Chuan Shan Jia (Pangolin Scales), Gua Lou Gen (Trichosanthis Radix), Tao Ren (Persicae Semen), and Hong Hua (Carthami Flos) break blood and moisten blood as the assistant drugs. Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) processed with wine sweeps away decayed blood as the envoy drug. Their flavors and properties combine so that blood and qi return to their proper places, and pain naturally subsides.
