Conditions such as pterygium (fleshy growth climbing onto the cornea), excessive skin, and drooping eyelids all belong to external obstructions. Upon carefully assessing their severity, there are preparations for internal administration, eye drops, and washing, as well as methods of hooking, cutting, cauterizing, and branding.
However, these methods are not yet fixed. There are opacities resembling ice cracks, floating or sinking, date-blossom shapes, and crescent moon shapes, varying in depth and firmness. There are also cases where the eyes are clear without opacities, resembling those who have never suffered from disease.
Therefore, when discussing internal obstructions, medical treatment is often emphasized more than for external ones. One must wait for a period until the opacity matures before employing needle manipulation. Some recover after one manipulation, while others require repeated attempts. The joy of clearing clouds and fog to see the bright blue sky and sun is followed by strict protection to await stability, accompanied by oral medication to treat internally. This serves to sweep away and cleanse pathogens, eradicate the root cause, and restore the natural state. There are many specialists treating eye diseases in the world, too numerous to list. Generally, they take the *Longmu Ji* (Collection of Longmu) as their standard. The *Longmu Ji* records twenty-two types of internal obstructions, twelve of which can be treated with needle manipulation. It states that after needle treatment, specific decoctions or pills should be used, indicating that needle manipulation is essential for efficacy in internal obstructions. Moreover, resorting to needles in eye treatment is truly a last resort; would one use them lightly or indiscriminately? Needle techniques are detailed elsewhere. Here, we briefly list the post-needle medications in order below.
