The so-called acute hernia (Zu Han) refers to a condition occurring in individuals with weak Kidney Qi, caused by external cold exposure and consumption of cold food or drink, leading to a sudden invasion of pathogenic factors. These pathogens transmit into the meridians. Since the Shaoyin Kidney Meridian is internally-externally related to the Taiyang Bladder Meridian, this results in sudden onset of severe pain. Symptoms may include spontaneous sweating, chest oppression, suffocation, loss of consciousness, and unbearable suffering; hence it is named acute hernia.
