The manifestations of Li Jie Feng (Lime Disease / Polyarthralgia) include: shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating, dizziness and vertigo, a sensation of nausea, contracture and curling of the fingers, emaciation of the body with joint swelling resembling dislocation, gradually leading to bone destruction. The pain is severe, feeling like tearing, preventing flexion and extension. This condition is typically caused by drinking alcohol followed by exposure to wind, entering water while sweating, or due to a weak constitution and loose pores without adequate protection, allowing Wind-Cold-Damp pathogenic factors to invade and flow through various joints, clashing with Qi and Blood to cause this disease. Pain feeling like tearing indicates an excess of Cold; swelling resembling dislocation indicates an excess of Dampness; yellow sweat exuding from the joints indicates an excess of Wind. Generalized wandering itching, bone-deep pain, quiet during the day but worsening at night, feeling as if bitten by insects, is called Bai Hu Li Jie (White Tiger Lime Disease). The treatment method should employ warm-natured herbs to resolve the toxicity of Wind-Cold-Damp. Alternatively, mild methods can be used, such as Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang (Angelicae Pubescentis Decoction). If it is the wandering itching and pain of Bai Hu Li Jie, it is caused by worms. Moreover, the Spleen governs muscles; deficiency leads to itching. Eating when itching occurs might provide relief, as the worms would be satiated and not bite frequently. Medical texts state: "If the medicine does not induce Ming Xuan (intense physiological reaction), the serious illness will not heal." For such syndromes, also known as Li Feng (Malignant Leprosy), strong decoctions or pills must be prepared; one should not limit oneself to ordinary, superficial prescriptions. If Li Jie Feng is left untreated for a long time, it causes joint subluxation and deformity, turning into Lei Bing (Leprosy-like disease); this must be known. Since ancient times, regardless of status, people have suffered from it; this is the toxic harm of Wind. Although decoctions exist for treatment, they are inferior to Song Gao (Pine Resin) and Song Jie Jiu (Pine Joint Wine). For those traveling or poor who cannot quickly procure ingredients, taking various decoctions is better than taking nothing.
