Throat ulcers present with lesions that are either white or red, accompanied by thick and turbid phlegm and saliva, foul-smelling breath from the throat, and pain. This is caused by heat in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner), disharmony between the Spleen and Lung, where heat pathogens contend within the meridians and cause steaming effects.
Banxia Tang (Pinellia Decoction): Treats throat ulcers, coughing and expectoration feeling like a fishbone is stuck, and loss of voice.
Ingredients: Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma, soaked in decoction to remove slipperiness seven times, two liang), Shegan (Belamcandae Rhizoma), Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, processed), Xingren (Armeniacae Semen, soaked in decoction, skin and tip removed, double kernel stir-fried), Ziwan (Asteris Radix, stems and soil removed).
Usage: Take warm.
Huang San (Coptidis Powder) (from *Shenghui Fang*): Treats internal throat ulcers causing pain.
Ingredients: Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, half liang, crushed), Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, half liang, raw and crushed), Shanzhizi (Gardeniae Fructus, half liang), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix, three fen), Xuanshen (Scrophulariae Radix, one liang), Chifuling (Poria cum Ligno Rubrum, half liang), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus, half liang).

Usage: Four qian per dose.
Formula for treating ulcers and sores in the throat and tongue.
Use crushed Rosae Rugosae Radix, boil strongly to extract juice, and gargle. Use roots in winter, branches and leaves in summer.
Han Yin Hou She Sheng Chuang Fang (Formula for Throat and Tongue Ulcers Caused by Heavy Drinking) (from *Zhu Shi Ji Yan Fang*): Treats throat rot and tongue ulcers resulting from months of continuous alcohol consumption.
Use snails and clams from water, cook with Congbai (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus), Chijiu (Fermented Soybean), Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), and Huajiao (Zanthoxyli Pericarpium) to make juice. Drink three liang cups. It will heal.
Formula for treating ulcers and sores in the mouth and throat.
Use one liang of Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), cut it, add three sheng of water, boil to obtain one sheng. Gargle slowly and spit out when cool. Avoid pork and raw/cold foods.
Huang Tang (Coptidis Decoction): Treats throat pain and ulcers.

Qudu Meigui Wan (Rose Pill for Removing Toxicity): Treats heat in the Upper Jiao, throat ulcers with red bases and white heads, thick and turbid phlegm/saliva, and foul breath. It resolves salivation and generates fluids.
Ingredients: Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis), Hongxue (Red Snow, ground, each one liang), Mabo (Puerariae Radix?
