Those taking mineral drugs (referring to ancient mineral-based elixirs, such as Wushi San) find nothing more urgent than adapting to the body's condition. The method of adaptation prioritizes dietary regimen above all else. There are foods that are suitable and those that must be avoided with caution.
[Preparatory Formulas]
Dietary Regimen Suitable for Those Taking Mineral Drugs (From *Shengji Zonglu*)
Take lard and pork; consuming them three to five times a month is beneficial. Additionally, prepare Jiangchi (meat sauce seasoned with ginger and fermented soybeans) using cattle heads and hooves, sheep heads and hooves, and pork. After eating, quickly suppress the food intake with cold rice and walk around to disperse the stagnation, which is optimal. Among those taking mineral drugs, some have a disposition favoring wheat noodles and sour vinegar, lacking self-restraint. Such individuals should consume bland bran vinegar soup, purple flour (black wheat flour) prepared with boiling water, and dough cakes kneaded with water, which will cause no harm. Cold chive soup is highly nourishing and should be consumed frequently. Furthermore, although those taking mineral drugs may drink alcohol, they should not do so excessively. Excessive drinking dulls the sense of taste in food, leading to loss of appetite. Loss of appetite induces deficiency-heat, which in turn triggers the toxicity of the mineral drugs, causing aversion to cold. Moreover, alcohol damages the efficacy of the mineral drugs. It is often said that wine can suppress the minerals, but it actually leads to Wind-Deficiency syndrome, resulting in weakness of the waist and legs. If one can drink alcohol and maintain a good appetite simultaneously, that is ideal.
Regimen of Taboos for Those Taking Mineral Drugs (From *Shengji Zonglu*)
When taking mineral drugs, one must strictly avoid hot noodles, white wine, old and foul-smelling vinegar, meat from chickens, dogs, sheep, and cattle, abalone, fish with strong odors, dried fish, blood soups, and wines containing ash or served cold. Fruits to avoid include plums, apricots, peaches, and plums. Medicinal herbs to avoid include Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Wutou), Aconiti Radix Preparata (Fuzi), Aconiti Radix (Tianxiong), and Xanthii Fructus (Cang'er). All these should be carefully considered to ensure peace and safety. Indeed, the post-medication regimen for mineral drugs is extremely difficult. If one cannot properly rest and regulate oneself, it is better not to take them. Diseases such as spinal fracture, cranial fissure, hair loss, and bodily swelling often arise from this negligence. Therefore, during summer months, one should not consume excessive pork or cold water, lest it cause persistent intestinal sliding diarrhea or indigestion due to cold drinks and food, leading to Huoluan (cholera-like syndrome).
Taboos and Purple Flour Regimen After Taking Mineral Drugs (From *Taiping Shenghui Fang*)
Take an arbitrary amount of black soybeans, boil them to extract a thick decoction, and use this liquid instead of water to mix flour. Prepare the dough into noodles according to standard methods, then re-boil them in this bean decoction. Add more bean decoction if it becomes too dry.
Water-Kneaded Cake Formula (From *Shengji Zonglu*)
When making cakes, apply water to the surface of the raw dough while cutting/kneading, ensuring both the inside and outside are thoroughly cooked. Do not eat Hu-bing (sesame flatbread) or roasted bing, as these tend to cause severe heat accumulation.
Suitable Wheat Noodle Cake Formula (From *Taiping Shenghui Fang*)
Mix flour as per standard cake-making methods, cut finely into pieces the size of small beans, and toss the flour in a winnowing basket until it forms pill-like shapes. Boil until very well done, drain, and place in cold water. Then remove... [Text fragment ends here].
Another Formula (From *Shengji Zonglu*)
Use fresh barley flour mixed with meat juice to make cakes; this is very beneficial. Steamed barley cakes mixed with black beans are also excellent. When traveling far in the summer heat, if one feels thirsty and suffers from intense heat, do not consume roasted meat, especially mutton and gazelle meat. Other meats with neutral or cool properties can be eaten generally, but should not be consumed hot, lest they induce Xiaoke (wasting-thirst syndrome).
