消渴病，虽然表现为口渴，但小便量极少。这是因为年轻时服用过五石散等丸药，经过多年，石药的燥热之邪结聚于肾脏之中，导致下焦虚弱。其病变表现为脉象数而大，这是气机外溢的表现，与美味饮食有关。
太阳经引起的口渴，脉象浮且无汗的，使用五苓散、滑石之类药物，往往无效。于是导致患者大量饮水，双脚出现浮肿。此证不可以……（原文此处有脱漏或语意不全，依文意推测为不可单纯止渴或误治）。胡……消中丸。（原文此处有脱漏）。足太阳经，是膀胱的经脉。膀胱，是肾的腑脏。如果小便频数，这是因为气盛则消化食物快，大便干硬结实。脓水……变成……百日……若……致……外……小便量多于饮水量，使人极度虚弱、短气。所谓内消，是指食物都消化成小便排出。而且不感到口渴。贞观十年，刺史李文博先服用了白石英，时间久了忽然阳道强盛，过一个多月逐渐患病口渴，过了几天小便非常通利，日夜达一百次。用各种方法治疗，病情逐渐加重，四肢瘦弱，不能起身行动，精神恍惚，口舌焦干而死。这种病虽然少见，但也存在。利尿时脉象沉细微弱，服用枸杞汤即见效，但不能彻底痊愈。服用铅丹散也能减轻症状。其间曾服用除热渴的药物，脉长且有汗的，可用白虎凉膈散之类。少阳经引起的口渴，脉弦且呕吐的，用小柴胡加栝蒌汤。太阴经引起的口渴，想喝水思喝热汤，不想喝水的，以四君子汤、理中汤为主治。少阴经引起的口渴，脉沉且自利的，用猪苓汤、三黄汤之类。渴脉微弱且引饮的，少量给予水分。滑石治疗口渴，原本是因为窍道不利而使用，因其性燥能损伤津液。天令……过者，应当使用，这是犯禁忌。假如小便通利或渴或不渴，可知内有湿热。小便自利而渴的，是内燥。湿宜用渗泄法，燥则用润泽法，就可以了。只有证见有汗而渴的，用辛润之法；无汗而渴的，……（原文此处有脱漏）。伤寒食少而渴的，应当用和胃的药来止渴，不可用凉药止渴，恐怕再损伤胃气，导致不能进食。茯苓即是和胃的药。太阳无汗而渴的，不宜用白虎汤。若发汗后脉洪大而渴的，适宜与之（指白虎汤）。有汗而渴的，不宜用五苓散。若小便不利，汗少脉浮而渴的，适宜用五苓散。人患心肺热而……知不在太阳、少阴之本，而只在标也。在标则不渴矣。
