When a person sinks into water and drowns, water enters the abdomen causing coldness. Qi obstruction leads to sudden syncope and death. The method for resuscitation is to drain the accumulated water so that Qi circulation can be restored, thereby enabling revival.
Prescriptions
For drowning death occurring after half a day:
The above prescription: Place a large earthenware jar upside down on the ground. Position the drowned victim with their abdomen resting on the mouth of the jar. Apply mild heat beneath the jar. When the area over the victim's heart region becomes warm, proceed.
For drowning, using scallion juice to guide out water:
Take non-borered soap pods (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus), grind them into fine powder. Mix with juice from white parts of scallions (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) or jujube pulp to form pills the size of a jujube pit. Insert into the lower orifice (anus) to guide the water out naturally.
For drowning death, reviving by pouring wine into the nose:
Hang the victim upside down. Pour good-quality wine into the nostrils, and also into the lower orifice. Alternatively, vinegar may be used in the nostrils.
For treating drowning death:
The above prescription: Lay the victim supine and tilt the body to drain water. Cover the abdomen generously with ash. Then blow soap pod powder into the nostrils; the victim will revive.
For drowning death, reviving by blocking the lower orifice with calcined stone:
The above prescription: Use calcined stone (Lapis Calcitae) to block the lower orifice. Once the water has drained from the lower orifice, the victim revives. Another method: Wrap calcined stone in cotton and insert it into the lower orifice.
For drowning death, guiding out water:
Grind soap pods into powder, wrap in cotton, and insert into the lower orifice. Have the victim lie prone facing downward. After a short while, water will exit from the mouth and nose. Continue to cover the body with ash. Once the water is fully drained, the victim revives.
For drowning death:
Spread ash from the stove on the ground to a thickness of five cun. Place a steamer basket (Zheng) on its side upon the ash. Position the victim prone on the steamer, allowing the head to hang slightly downward. Below, stir-fry salt measuring two Fang Cun Bi (a traditional measure).
Another prescription:
Dig a pit. Boil several hu of ash and place it in the pit. Cover the victim with the ash. Replace the ash when it becomes wet through. Do not let the ash be too hot to burn the person. Replace again when the ash cools. This process lasts for half a day.
Another prescription:
Take a large steamer basket and invert it. Have the victim lie prone on it, positioning the mouth near the opening of the steamer. Burn two or three bundles of reed fire to heat the interior of the steamer directly over the victim's heart region, allowing smoke to emerge.
*Wai Tai Mi Yao* suggests using an earthenware jar instead of a steamer.
Another prescription:
Simply bury the victim in warm ash, ensuring both the head and feet are warm. Only expose the seven orifices (eyes, ears, nose, mouth). Once water flows out from these orifices, the victim revives.
Another prescription:
Conveniently, take a warm pot and invert it. Have the drowned person lie prone on it. As water drains from the abdomen, the victim revives. Another method: Cover the victim with warm clothing.
Method for Rescuing Drowning Victims:
For any drowning victim, once rescued onto land, immediately have the victim lie prone across a cow's back, supporting both sides. Slowly lead the cow forward.
Immediately cause... [Text appears incomplete here]
For drowning where the heart region still retains warmth:
Have someone hold the victim firmly, tilting the head slightly backward. Align the mouth with the nose to suction out yellow fluid. Then use cotton wadding to... [Text appears incomplete here] cover the lower body and scrotum area. The victim revives.
A victim who has drowned overnight can still be saved.
Bend the victim's legs and rest them on the shoulders of a living person. Carry the victim with their back against the carrier's back while walking. If water is vomited up, the victim revives. This method also treats freezing to death.
Another prescription:
Hang the victim upside down and remove their clothes. Clean the dirt around the umbilicus. Have two people use a brush tube to blow air into the victim's ears.
Another prescription:
Apply heated sand to the victim's face. Place sand underneath, leaving only the anus, nose, and ears exposed. Replace the sand when it becomes wet and cold.
Another prescription:
Use either hot sand or stir-fried hot ash. Bury the drowning victim within it from head to toe. Once water flows out from the seven orifices, the victim revives.
Another prescription (from *Sheng Hui Fang*):
Remove the victim's clothes and moxa-heat the umbilicus (Qihai/CV8 area). The victim revives. All the aforementioned prescriptions are effective. Generally, it is believed that when Qi is exhausted, one should avoid injury; apply these methods according to convenience.
Another prescription (from *Wei Shi Fang*):
Take one wine jar and a handful of paper money. Burn the money inside the jar. Quickly place the mouth of the jar over the drowning victim's face or umbilicus. If it cools, burn more paper money in the jar...
