《太平圣惠方》说：肛门旁边长出像老鼠乳房一样的赘生物，这是因为人体脏腑空虚，体内有积热，无法宣泄，流注到大肠之间，结聚而成的。这都是因为下元虚冷，肾脏劳损受伤，风邪毒热在内不能消散，蕴蓄日久，因而生病。也由于饮食不节制，醉酒饱食毫无顾忌，恣意食用鸡肉猪肉，久坐潮湿之地，情欲纷扰，长时间强忍大便，导致阴阳不和，关格之气壅塞不通。风热之气向下冲撞肛肠，所以导致直肠末端长出像老鼠乳房一样的肉赘，有的像樱桃，有的像大豆，时常出血，往往流出脓液，这也称为牡痔。

The *Taiping Shenghui Fang* (Formulas of the Taiping Era Benevolent Sages) states: The growth of mouse-breast-like protuberances on the side of the anus occurs because the internal organs are empty and deficient, with accumulated heat inside that cannot be vented, flowing into the large intestine and condensing. This is due to deficiency and cold in the lower origin, and laborious injury to the kidneys, where wind pathogens and toxic heat remain unresolved internally, accumulating over a long period, thus causing disease. It is also caused by irregular diet, reckless indulgence in alcohol and heavy meals, excessive consumption of chicken and pork, prolonged sitting on damp ground, chaotic desires, and long-term suppression of defecation. These lead to disharmony of Yin and Yang, obstruction of Guan-Ge (closure and blockage) qi. Wind-heat qi rushes downward to the anal canal, causing flesh protuberances like mouse breasts to grow at the rectal end, some resembling cherries, others like soybeans, with frequent bleeding and often pus discharge. This is also called Male Hemorrhoids (Mu Zhi).
