Women's Hong Kong Jiao (Gouty Arthritis/Foot Qi) differs from men's. In men, it is due to Kidney deficiency, invaded by Wind-Dampness. In women, it is due to emptiness of the Bao Luo (uterine collaterals), combated by Toxic factors.
This is because the Bao Luo belongs to the Kidney. The Kidney governs the waist and feet. Furthermore, the meridians of the Liver, Spleen, and Kidney originate from the ten toes of the feet. If the Zang-Fu organs are deficient and damaged, Wind pathogenic factors will first lodge in the feet.
Or there may be symptoms such as mental confusion and drowsiness, irritability and pain in the limb tendons, dark yellow urine, and constipation with difficulty in defecation; all these are its manifestations.
The reason why the treatment for women's Hong Kong Jiao differs from men's is that their Qi and Blood are unregulated, and they have differences regarding pregnancy, difficult labor, metrorrhagia, and trauma. Therefore, Chu Cheng treated widows and nuns differently from ordinary wives, which illustrates this principle. Any woman suffering from Hong Kong Jiao disease will definitely be unable to bear children.
Any case involving headache, fever, pain in the limbs and joints, constipation, or vomiting with weakness and flexion inability of the feet is classified as Hong Kong Jiao.
