The disease known as "Feng" (Bee-related pathology) arises from irregular diet and overexertion, combined with excessive drinking of running water when thirsty. This occurs because bee venom is not expelled, leading to pathological changes. At the onset, the root of the lesion is in the neck, where multiple scrofula nodes (lymphatic swellings) become swollen simultaneously, ulcerate, and form sores resembling carbuncles. After healing, it recurs, with its root lying in the Spleen.
Formulas
Xionghuang Huangqin San (Cinnabar and Scutellaria Powder), from *Qianjin Fang*, treats the initial onset of Feng disease in the neck scrofula nodes, where three or four nodes are connected and ulcerated. This condition results from drinking running water, leaving bee venom unexpelled, with the root in the Spleen. Xionghuang (Realgar) serves as the principal herb, while Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) acts as an assistant.
Ingredients: Xionghuang (Realgar) and Huangqin (Scutellaria Root) (each 1 liang), Fengfang (Honeycomb) (one piece), Biejia (Tartaric Turtle Shell), Huixiang (Fennel), Wuzhuyu (Evodia Fruit), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) (each 0.5 liang), Shujiao (Sichuan Pepper) (300 grains). Pound and sieve the ingredients, apply to the sore surface once daily for ten days. *Waitai Miyao* excludes Xionghuang and Huangqin.
Wuxiang San (Five Fragrances Powder), from *Shenghui Fang*, treats Feng disease manifesting in the neck and nape, presenting as linked, swollen, and painful nodules.
Ingredients: Chenxiang (Agarwood) (1.5 liang), Dingxiang (Clove) (1 liang), Muxiang (Costus Root) (1.5 liang), Xunluxiang (Frankincense) (1.5 liang), Chuan Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) (1.5 liang), Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) (1.5 liang), Shexiang (Musk) (1 fen, finely ground). Pound the herbs into a fine powder, sift, and mix thoroughly. Take 1 qian per dose, decoct with one zhongzhan of water until reduced to six parts, and take warm on an empty stomach and before evening meals.
Lufeng San (Dew Honeycomb Powder), from *Shenghui Fang*, treats Feng disease with a distinct head.
Ingredients: Lufengfang (Dew-exposed Honeycomb) (one piece), Biejia (Tartaric Turtle Shell) (1 fen), Wuzhuyu (Evodia Fruit) (1 fen), Chuanjiao (Sichuan Pepper) (100 grains), Ganjiang (Dried Ginger) (1 fen), Xionghuang (Realgar) (1 fen, finely ground). Grind all into a fine powder, incorporate the Xionghuang, and mix with raw oil to apply to the sore surface three times daily.
Zaojia Wan (Soap Pod Pill), from *Shenghui Fang*, treats Feng disease occurring between the neck nodes, appearing in clusters of three to five, like pea-sized balls, accompanied by swelling and pain.
Ingredients: Zaojia (Gleditsia Sinensis Fruit) (8 liang; crush 4 liang, soak overnight in 2 sheng of fresh well water, pound and squeeze to obtain 4 liang of juice; remove skin, coat with 1 liang of su (lard/butter), roast until yellow and charred); Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus), Woniu (Snail), Qianniuzi (Pharbitidis Semen) (slightly roasted, each 0.5 liang). Grind into a fine powder. Take the previously prepared Zaojia juice in a silver pot, simmer slowly until reduced to 1 sheng, then add the other two medicines and continue simmering. Form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills per dose, washed down with Huoxiang (Patchouli) decoction, on an empty stomach and before evening meals.
Suodou San (Suo Dou Powder), from *Shenghui Fang*, treats Feng disease.
Ingredients: Suodou (2 liang, stir-fried until cooked), Bailian (Ampelopsis Radix) (1 liang), Moli (Oyster Shell) (1 liang, calcined to ash). Grind into a fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose mixed with warm wine, three times daily.
Formula for Treating Feng Disease (from *Shenghui Fang*).
Use human feces, ash of snake skin, and lard from the twelfth lunar month, mix and apply externally. Another version includes Shexiang (Musk).
Fengke Gao (Honeycomb Ointment), from *Qianjin Fang*, treats Feng disease.
Burn honeycombs to ash, roast until yellow, and grind to powder. Alternatively, mix with lard from the twelfth lunar month and apply into the pores. Another variant treats nasal polyps protruding externally forming tumors with pus and blood discharge, identified as Feng disease. A simple formula uses honeycomb roasted until charred, ground to powder, taken with wine (1 qian) or congee drink. Take once daily on an empty stomach.
When Feng disease first appears, it resembles a peach and is itchy; scratching causes it to enlarge to the size of a chicken egg, resembling an inverted hand. (From *Shenghui Fang*)
Apply hot salt compresses. It heals within three nights and four days. If it does not heal, after one hundred days it becomes a "Li" (scrofula), measuring four to five cun in length and three cun in width, with holes containing hundreds of bees. The treatment involves using Shi Liuhuang (Stibnite), burning a candle to melt it until liquid flows out, and dripping it into the sore holes. Within moments, dozens of bees can be seen emerging from the skin; only when all bees have exited will the patient recover.
Another Formula (from *Shenghui Fang*)
Burn dead dung beetles to ash, grind finely, mix with vinegar, and apply.
Another Formula (from *Shenghui Fang*)
Burn crow heads to ash, grind finely, and apply.
