With husband and wife, there are father and son. After marriage, one must seek offspring continuation. Therefore, the sages said that among the three types of unfilial conduct, having no descendants is the greatest. This emphasizes the extreme importance of offspring continuation. Generally, when seeking conception, one should first examine whether the couple has any exhaustion injuries or chronic diseases. Treat according to formulas to make internal and external harmonious. Then husband and wife will be happy and have children.
Su Wen states: Heaven and Earth are the parents of all things. Yin and Yang are the male and female aspects of blood and qi. With husband and wife, there are father and son. After marriage, there is childbirth. Childbirth is the foundation of human relations. Moreover, when man and woman unite, their emotions flow smoothly. Yin blood arrives first, Yang blood follows. The blood opens to wrap the essence. Yin outside, Yang inside; Yin contains Yang, the fetus forms as male. If Yang essence arrives first, Yin blood follows. The essence opens to wrap the blood. Yang outside, Yin inside; Yang contains Yin, the fetus forms as female. For those who conceive easily, man and woman must be of appropriate age. Men at sixteen (two eights) have overflowing essence and Qi, but should marry at thirty. Women at fourteen (two sevens) have Tian Gui arrive, but should marry at twenty. Only when their two Qi are substantial can they copulate. Copulation leads to pregnancy, pregnancy to nurturing, nurturing to longevity. If marriage is untimely, True Qi leaks early, injury occurs before maturity. Thus, copulation without conception, pregnancy without birth, and birth without longevity are common. From this perspective, marriage between men and women is valuable when timely. Husband and wife are valuable when Jing and Zhuang (vital essence and strength) are robust, making conception easy. If the father is young and the mother old, the daughter born will likely be weak. If the mother is strong and the father weak, the son born will likely be frail. This is indeed the principle. Or if the man's true essence and Qi are not dense, and the woman's blood is deficient while Qi is hyperactive, this is called "husband's disease and woman's rash." Both lead to infertility. The treatment method: women should nourish blood and suppress Qi, reducing anger and joy. Men should tonify Kidney and generate essence, restraining desires. Treat according to formulas. When Yin and Yang are harmonious, women will happily conceive.
It is also said that causes of infertility fall into three categories. First, ancestral line ends (no heirs). Second, husband and wife's life spans clash. Third, husband's disease and woman's rash. All cause infertility. If it is ancestral line ending or life span clash, these two cannot be helped by medicine. If it is husband's disease and woman's rash, medicinal therapy is required to be effective. However, women infertile due to illness are all caused by exhaustion injuring blood and Qi, or amenorrhea, or metrorrhagia and leukorrhea. This leads to disharmony of Yin and Yang Qi, and menstrual flow violating its proper timing.
Thus, infertility. Palpate the Chi pulse behind the Guan position on the right hand. Floating indicates Yang. If Yang pulse is absent, there is no fertility. If Chi pulse is faint and choppy, obtained in middle age, it indicates sterility. If Shaoyin pulse is like floating and tight, it indicates sterility. If aversion to cold with both Cun and Chi pulses weak and minute, it indicates sterility. There are also cases due to improper care and unregulated diet, riding...
Generally, women aged twenty to thirty who have no disease but no children, whose menstruation is normal or irregular, suffer from Yin not ascending and Yang not descending. Upper and lower parts fail to communicate. There is stagnation and obstruction, preventing function. One can use Dusheng San (Single Holy Powder) to induce vomiting to expel three or two sheng of cold phlegm. Then use Daoshui Wan (Water-Guiding Pill) and Yugong San (Yu Gong Powder) to purge three to five or more than ten stools. Or simply use Wuyou San (Wu You Powder) to purge more than ten stools. Apply based on cold-heat deficiency-excess. Next, eat scallion and vinegar white porridge for three to five days. Stomach Qi becomes unobstructed, intestines become solid. One can take Yuzhu San (Jade Candle Powder), then take Baizhu San (Atractylodes Powder), Poria, etc. To descend fire and benefit water. The way of Ji Ji (Successful Transition). Conception should occur within a few months. Nei Jing states: Women with strangury, hemorrhoids, urinary incontinence, and dry throat symptoms, even if treated with excellent medicine and acupuncture, ultimately cannot conceive. This is because the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel), Du Mai (Conception Vessel), and Ren Mai (Director Vessel) have these diseases, preventing conception.
The reason women do not conceive is insufficiency of Chong and Ren Mai, and Kidney Qi deficiency-cold. Nei Jing says: At fourteen (two sevens), Tian Gui arrives in women. Ren Mai becomes patent. Tai Chong Mai becomes flourishing. Yin and Yang harmonize. Thus, they can conceive. If Chong and Ren Mai are insufficient, and Kidney Qi is deficient-cold, the uterus cannot hold the fetus. Thus, infertility. Some originate from husband's disease and woman's rash. One must trace the cause and treat accordingly. Key treatment methods: men take Qizi San (Seven Seeds Powder); women take Zhumen Mudong Wan (Zhu Men Winter Sweet Pill) and sit in Daobao Tang (Uterus-Cleansing Decoction). None will fail to conceive.
