As for bloody dysentery (Xue Li), it is caused by heat-toxin stagnating in the blood and infiltrating the large intestine. Blood circulates through the meridians with Qi, passing through the Zang-Fu organs, and usually does not accumulate. When toxic heat attacks, if it encounters a deficiency of the intestines, blood infiltrates into the intestines. Intestinal deficiency leads to diarrhea, thus forming bloody dysentery. If the body is hot, death ensues; if the body is cold, survival is indicated. Palpation of the Guan position reveals a Kou pulse (floating, large, and empty in the middle, like pressing a scallion stalk).
