Common minor wind-cold attacks, headache, nasal congestion, neck stiffness, and tendon tension can all be treated. However, sudden joy damages Yang, sudden anger damages Yin, and worry/surprise causes Qi rebellion, often leading to this disease. One may feel saliva surging, dizziness, blockage, and lockjaw. If generally treated as stroke syndrome, it is inappropriate and often fatal. Someone once suddenly had Qi syncope, lockjaw, and salivation. A physician treated it as stroke and administered 3 pills of Datong Wan. It caused severe diarrhea several times, and the patient died that night. I always regret this. Whenever I see this syndrome, I urgently dissolve 4-5 pills of Suhexiang Wan and administer them, and the patient wakes up. Then, regulate according to deficiency/excess and cold/heat. There is no case that does not heal. The Classic says: Hoarseness without cause and absent pulse will heal spontaneously without treatment. This refers to sudden Qi rebellion. When Qi recovers, it heals. If confirmed as such, even without medicine is acceptable. For recurrent stroke episodes, start with acupuncture at Baihui, Jianyu, Quchi, Fengshi, Zusanli, Jiexu, Hairline, Dazhui, Fengchi. Using these points guarantees immediate effect. If the cause is fright, Liver is attacked by pathogen. Yangming meridian is Stomach. When pathogen is strong and fears not being overcome, it attacks Lung. Lung, due to chronic illness and weak Qi, cannot withstand Liver bullying. The disease recurs with dizziness, convulsions, and spasms. Pericardium harbors latent phlegm. Over time, Spleen Qi is harmed. Must calm Liver Qi so it returns to its meridian, then Spleen is not suppressed. Spleen is Central Earth, governing limbs. When Spleen Qi is regular, Earth generates Metal. When Metal is prosperous, Lung is peaceful. Now, when disease is about to manifest, feeling Qi rushing upward indicates Liver insulting Lung. Lung does not accept insult, hence the upward rush. Liver excess leads to Metal counter-attacking, hence spasms. Treating with hot herbs worsens wind; treating with cold herbs depletes Qi. Lung belongs to Metal, which governs clear transformation. Disharmony in organ timing is felt. Now, using neutral and warm herbs to suppress Liver and tonify Lung allows gradual recovery. The current palpitation is not true palpitation. The great collateral of Stomach is named Jianli. Emptiness with phlegm between chest/diaphragm and both breasts causes movement. Movement followed by a burst of heat is the sign. Taking Xuduan Tang, Zhuyu Wan, and Duhuo San for one month cures it. Sihe was a famous physician residing in Yizhen, little known at the time.
