At the end, process the powder into pills with honey, sized like wu-tong seeds. Take 70–80 pills each time, swallowed with warm wine on an empty stomach.
Xusi Jiangsheng Dan (Succession-Continuing and Birth-Inducing Pill): Treats deficiency and damage of the five zang organs in women, cold and exhaustion of the uterus, and inability to conceive. It also treats men with cold semen and insecurity, impotence, white turbidity and nocturnal emission, women's leukorrhea with alternating chills and fever, various deficiencies and damages, night sweats, and shortness of breath, with no case failing to respond. This prescription is recorded in Wen Yiju's "Qiusi Baosheng Pian" (Chapter on Seeking Heirs and Preserving Life). It states that Jiao Yuanwai of Dongjing had no legitimate heir for three generations. Later, he met a divine monk and asked for the reason. The monk said: "There are three reasons for having no heir: first, ancestors lacked virtue, and one's own conduct was flawed; second, the couple's birth years may violate taboos; third, spirit and essence are not preserved, and the wife's natal family has cold blood." Mr. Jiao asked: "Is there a treatment method?" The monk said: "First cultivate virtue, then cultivate the body. After three years, go to Taishan, and let the novice monk give you a prescription and medicine named Xusi Jiangsheng Dan. Follow the prescription to take it. Within less than twenty years later, several descendants all became noble and prominent. This prescription contains no bizarre or purgative substances; it is both warming and consolidating. For those with deficiency-cold of the Blood Sea, taking it will surely be beneficial. However, its warming power is sufficient, but its tonifying power is insufficient. If Ginseng Radix (Renshen), Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Shudi), Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata (Zhigancao) are added, each at one liang, then the Bazhen Decoction (Eight-Treasure Decoction) becomes complete, and the merit of warming, tonifying, and assisting reproduction should be profound. Therefore, it is named Jiawei Xusi Jiangsheng Dan (Modified Succession-Continuing and Birth-Inducing Pill)."
Herbs: Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), washed with wine; Eucommiae Cortex (Duzhong), stir-fried with wine; Poria (Fushen); Alpinia Oxyphylla Fruit (Yizhiren); Dragon Bone (Longgu), calcined; Cinnamon Twig (Guixin); Evodiae Fructus (Wuzhuyu), processed; Dried Ginger (Ganjiang), half raw and half cooked; Sichuan Pepper (Chuanjiao), eyes removed; Tsaoko Cardamom Fruit (Tai Wuyao), each one liang; White Peony Root (Baishaoyao), stir-fried with wine; Achyranthes Bidentatae Radix (Chuanniuxi), soaked in wine; Pinelliae Tuber (Banxia), processed; Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng); Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (Qinjiao); Acori Tatarinowii Rhizome (Shichangpu), hairs removed; Asari Radix (Beixixin); Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng), each five qian; Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata (Fuzi), one piece weighing one liang, make a hole under the navel, insert one qian of Cinnabar (Zhusha), wrap in dough and roast until ripe, remove Cinnabar, keep the dough as coating); Oyster Shell (Muli), large pieces, soak in child's urine for forty-nine days, change every five days, take out, mix with one liang of Sulfur (Liuhuang) powder, blend with wine and coat thoroughly, paste with skin paper, moisten with rice vinegar, seal thickly with salt mud, wait until dry, roast over five jin of charcoal until powdered. Use only two liang per batch, store the rest for reuse.
Grind the above into powder, boil glutinous rice paste with wine to form pills, sized like wu-tong seeds, coat with the previously reserved Cinnabar powder. Take 30–50 pills each time, gradually increasing to 70–80 pills. Swallow with boiling plain water, salt water, or warm wine on an empty stomach.
Heche Zhongyu Wan (Placenta-Jade-Nurturing Pill):
Human Placenta (Ziheche), one placenta, choose one where the mother's qi is vigorous, thick, large, and fresh. Only remove intrauterine stasis blood, do not pick out fresh red blood vessels. Wash with rice wash water, squeeze dry with cloth, pound in a stone mortar until paste-like. Mix with four to five liang of Dioscoreae Rhizome powder (Shanyao) to dry, shape into eight or nine thin cakes, bake in a clay pot until dry, ideally fragrant like dried meat). Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Shudi), washed with wine and dried (eight liang); Lycium Barbarum Fruit (Gouqi), dried (five liang); Poria (Baifuling), mixed with human milk and sun-dried three times; Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Guishen), washed with wine; Ginseng Radix (Renshen); Cuscutae Semen (Tusizi), processed; Donkey-hide Gelatin (Ejiao), fried into beads (each four liang); Moutan Cortex (Danpi), washed with wine; Andrographis Herba (Baiwei), washed with wine (each two liang); Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum (Chenxiang), one liang; Cinnamon Twig (Guixin); Cornus Officinalis Fruit (Shanzhuyu); Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu Mi), soaked in wine, vinegar, and water (half bowl each) for three days, sun-dried and slightly baked (each three liang); Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Dachuanxiong), soaked in wine, sliced and sun-dried (two liang).
Mix the above with refined honey to form pills, sized like wu-tong seeds. Take over one hundred pills each time, on an empty stomach, or with wine, plain water, or salt water as preferred. If leukorrhea is turbid and excessive, add Red Halloysite (Chishizhi) and White Halloysite (Baishizhi), each two liang, must be purified by washing with clear rice water. After taking the medicine, avoid raw radish, raw lotus root, green onion, garlic, mung bean flour, etc.
Bazhen Yimu Wan (Eight-Treasure Motherwort Pill): Treats dual deficiency of qi and blood, weakness of spleen and stomach, lack of appetite, weakness of limbs, irregular menstruation, or backache and abdominal distension, intermittent flow, red and white leukorrhea, and alternating chills and fever. No case fails to respond. After taking for one month, conception can occur; for severe deficiency, after one course of medication, pregnancy is certain.
Herbs: Ginseng Radix (Renshen); Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizome (Baizhu), stir-fried with soil; Poria (Fuling); Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong), each one liang; Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), washed with wine; Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Shudi), washed with wine (each two liang); Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Preparata (Zhigancao), five qian; Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao), stir-fried with vinegar (one liang); Motherwort Herba (Yimucao), four liang, harvested in May and June, use only the upper half with leaves, avoid iron tools, sun-dry, pound into powder.
Grind the above into powder, refine honey to form pills, sized like bullet shots. Take one pill on an empty stomach with honey water or wine. Small pills can also be made. For those with spleen-stomach deficiency-cold and stagnation, add Amomi Fructus (Sharen), one liang, stir-fried with ginger juice; for abdominal distension and stuffiness, add Hawthorn Fruit (Shanzha Rou), one liang, steamed on rice; for excessive depression, add Cyperi Rhizoma (Xiangfu), one liang, processed with wine. This prescription is from Xu Sihe's "Yitong". Another name is Bazhen Yimu Shiquan Wan, using eight liang of Motherwort Herba in the previous formula, plus four qian of Agarwood (Chenxiang). Sihe said: "Nourishing the Kun Yuan (female physiological foundation), tonifying qi and blood, eliminating strangury and leukorrhea, strengthening the body, harmonizing qi before pregnancy, tonifying deficiency after childbirth, truly a sacred agent for women, a miraculous formula surpassing ancient and modern times, those with families must know this." I laugh at doctors of this era who only collect ancient formulas like Xiangfu and Shengjin Dan as key medicines for opening depression and regulating menstruation in women, without examining the differences between ancient and modern excess and deficiency. Ancient people had solid qi and blood, so Xiangfu could be used to guide and unblock. Xiangfu is pungent and dry, capable only of opening and breaking. Overuse greatly depletes qi and blood, making the deficient more deficient and the sick sicker, what benefit does it have for tonification? Today, ten women have nine cases of deficiency; tonification is necessary. Using Xiangfu again to deplete them will gradually lead to timidity and weakness syndromes. This is due to late differentiation, leading to danger and difficult recovery. Women with irregular menstruation, or dual deficiency of qi and blood with inherent weakness, should take this for regulation. For amenorrhea, one dose will unblock; for irregularity, one month will regulate. For those infertile by nature, one month of taking it will result in pregnancy. Intermittent use during pregnancy stabilizes and secures the fetus. One dose after childbirth, dissolved in child's urine and wine, prevents stagnation and blood stasis symptoms. Frequent use tonifies deficiency and invigorates blood, extremely stable for treating postpartum diseases. If quick effect is desired, dissolve and take with wine.
Wuji Wan (Black-Bone Chicken Pill): Treats women's emaciation, blood deficiency with heat, irregular menstruation, metrorrhagia and leukorrhea, bone-steaming fever, and inability to conceive.
Black-bone white-feathered rooster (one chicken, weighing about two and a half jin, killed by suffocation, remove feathers and impurities. Externally use four liang of Mugwort Leaf (Aiye) and four liang of Green Wormwood Herb (Qinghao), chopped. Put half inside the chicken belly. Use a small wine jar, put the chicken and remaining herbs inside, fill with child's urine and water to submerge the chicken by two cun, boil until completely dry, remove and discard bones. Rest of the process is the same, pound into thin cakes, bake dry into fine powder for use); Nan Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma), cleaned of hairs, one jin, divided into four parts, soak each part in rice wash water, child's urine, wine, and vinegar respectively. Spring/Autumn: 1-2 days, Summer: 1 day, Winter: 4 days. Take out, sun-dry, slightly stir-fry); Ginseng Radix (Renshen); Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Shudi); Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), soaked and washed with wine; Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdi); Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizome (Chuanxiong); White Peony Root (Baishao), each three liang; Astragali Membranaceus Radix (Huangqi); Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizome (Baizhu); Achyranthes Bidentatae Radix (Chuanniuxi); Bupleuri Radix (Chaihu); Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu); Moutan Cortex (Danpi), each two liang; Turtle Carapax and Plastron (Biejia), soaked in vinegar and roasted yellow, three liang); Poria (Baifuling), two and a half liang); Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (Qinjiao), one and a half liang); Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), stir-fried); Cortex Lycii (Digupi); Fritillariae Thunbergii Bulbus (Beimu); Corydalis Rhizoma (Yanhusuo); Dried Ginger (Ganjiang), roasted until scorched, each one liang.
