Xue Ji said: Using this formula along with Lijing Wan, Zishuang Wan, Sanwei Niuhuang Wan, Pianyin Wan, etc., are heavy-duty formulas that break through barriers and revive the dead. They must only be used when both constitution and pathology indicate excess patterns. One mistake can cost life instantly. The Classics state: Where pathogenic factors gather, qi must be deficient. If they remain, the disease becomes excess; this means the disease qi is excess, while the body qi is deficient. Dongyuan Mr. said: When both constitution and pathology are excess, purging is indicated, not tonifying; when both are deficient, tonifying is indicated, not purging. Practitioners must be prudent.
