[Flavor and Nature] Sweet and salty, neutral in nature, non-toxic.
[Indications] Primarily treats food stagnation that fails to digest, lingering and obstructing the Zang-Fu organs, as well as chronic food masses (accumulated food nodules) that do not heal for a long time. It addresses emaciation due to food accumulation in children, and years-long food-related Jia masses (abdominal masses) in women, which attack and pierce the heart and abdomen.
[Analysis] It is said: Produced in the mountains of Jiangbei. There are three colors: green, white, and ochre. The green variety that is hard and fine, with white star-like spots appearing when broken open, is considered superior. Processing method: Use one large crucible, place four taels of Qingmu Shi (Lapis Auripigmenti), crush it, mix equally with Xiao Shi (Natrii Sulfas), secure with fifteen jin of charcoal fire, heat until completely melted, until yellow stars appear.
[Commentary] It is said: "Shi" (Stone) refers to capacity/measurement. *Erya* states: "Sunset is called Da Meng." Zhuangzi states: "Hongmeng primordial Qi." Sima Xiangru states: "Mei Meng leaping up." Essentially, when water and grain enter the stomach, the function of receiving and transporting depends on "capacity." If there is only reception without transport, Yin condensation becomes extremely hard, causing Ying Wei (Defensive and Nutritive Qi), Yin-Yang, Blood, Qi, and Body Fluids to all become stagnant and cease to flow. The so-called evil from improper cooking enters through the mouth and becomes Su Shi (retained food). Convulsions, epilepsy, cough, and asthma also originate from the mouth. The Classics state: "Cough, asthma, urgency, convulsions..." Also: "When the White pulse arrives, it is rapid and floating." Jue syndrome and epilepsy involve accumulated Qi in the chest. Qingmu Shi's efficacy is to awaken the Yuan Qi (Primordial Qi) of the Zang-Fu organs that has been obscured, causing them to leap forth.
[Flavor and Nature] Sour and astringent, neutral in nature, non-toxic.
[Indications] Primarily treats traumatic bleeding from metal wounds. Scraped into powder and applied, it stops bleeding and promotes healing without suppuration. It also treats blood syncope and evil blood in women.
[Analysis] It is said: Produced in Wenxiang, Shanzhou. The body is hard and heavy, with a pure yellow color like sulfur, interspersed with pale white spots. Another name is Hua Rui Shi (Flower Stamen Stone). It can be harvested at any time, emerging in mixed sizes, with round and square shapes intermingled; the larger pieces can serve as vessels. *Yu Ce* states: This is a Yin stone. In the valleys of Daizhou, stones of five colors exist, which can be used for cinnabar storage chambers. They are also found in Wenshan and Pengxian in Shu. Processing method: Seal a pot tightly, roast over fire from above, bury in soil overnight, take out, grind to dust, process by water levigation three to five times, dry in the sun, and use.
[Commentary] It is said: Flower is the essence of the mountain; Milk (or fluid) is the juice of the mountain; Stone is the bone of the mountain. The Classics state: "Water power is inferior to Fire, condensing to form high mountains." Because Water and Fire are the cause, they constitute the substance and function. Essence corresponds to the function of Fire, fluid corresponds to the substance of Water. When function operates, substance follows; this is Yin utilizing Yang for function. Therefore, it primarily treats various blood diseases (Hemorrhage/Mishaps). Although the substance arrives, if the function is lost first, Hua Ru Shi (Flower and Milk Stone) employs its function first, assisted by its substance. Entering via the Xun trigram (Wind) from the center, it circulates through the meridians and collaterals, striving unceasingly.
(Water power being inferior to Fire condenses to form high mountains. Thus, mountain stones, when struck, produce sparks/flames; when melted, become water. "Inferior power" refers to quantity being less, not inferiority. Blood is governed by Shaoyin Jun Huo (Ministerial Fire); Shaoyin takes Yin as its substance and utilizes Yang for its function. Therefore, Jun Huo manifests brightness, rather than Xiang Huo taking position.)
