[Meng Quan]
[Flavor and Properties] Salty, warm, non-toxic.
[Indications] Primarily nourishes Kidney Water (Jin-Ye of the Kidney), nurtures the Dantian (Energy Center), returns to the root and restores original vitality, returns to the origin and recovers life, stabilizes the Five Zang Organs, moistens the San Jiao (Triple Burner), eliminates phlegm and cough,退除 bone-steaming fever (deficiency heat), softens hard masses, brightens the eyes and clears the mind, prolongs life and promotes longevity.
[Analysis] It is said: The refining of Qiushi (Autumn Stone) is a secret method of Daoist alchemists; what is refined in the world are all dregs and residual essences, unfit for use. The method should be performed in autumn, using two or three shi (ancient unit of volume) of human urine, placed in a pot, slowly boiled and concentrated with mulberry wood fire. Do not allow crust to form on the pot's rim; if it does, scrape it off with a bamboo knife. If it boils over, stir frequently with a bamboo branch until it settles. Wait until it dries into dregs, then remove the fire and dry with slow heat. Distribute into Yangcheng jars, leaving about two cun (inch) of space at the top, cover with porcelain bowls, and seal the jar mouths tightly. Nourish with fire for one cycle, and the medicine gradually forms, light as snow, crystal clear and lovely. Some may appear in five colors or resemble various shapes; these belong to the superior grade. Store tightly in silver bottles, kept in cool and quiet places; otherwise, they will weather into water and require re-refining and nurturing, forming frost-like crystals again, though slightly less solid. Another secret method called "Ji Ji Xuan Shu" (Perfectly Balanced Black Millet) selects upright and clean virgin boys and girls, each assigned their own urinal, collecting urine successively, boiling and refining into dregs, and separately sublimating the superior Qiushi from each. Collect the white sediment from the bottom of each urinal, sun-dry and bake until dry. First place the female sediment at the bottom of a silver cauldron, then place the male Qiushi above the female sediment, then place the female Qiushi above the male Qiushi, then place the male sediment above the female Qiushi, arranging them in order. Leave two cun of space at the top, seal firmly with Liuyi mud (a mixture of kaolin and gypsum), and nurture with gentle heat from three directions for seven days. Then each grain turns cinnabar red, interlocking and condensing at the top of the cauldron. This belongs to the supreme grade, and its storage method is also like that of Qiushi.
[Interpretation] It is said: When things mature, it is called "Autumn"; "Stone" refers to measure or principle. Urine originates from the nature of water flowing downward; relying on the fire's "Ji Ji" (Water and Fire perfectly balanced) state, it ascends properly. It cultivates the postnatal form-organs (Zang-Fu organs related to physical structure), assisting the prenatal spirit-organs (organs related to spiritual functions). Therefore, all diseases arise from the form-organs; when force transforms back to the spirit-organs, it still acts together with the form-organs. If Xuan Shu represents the union of Yin and Yang, restoring the perfect round image, one can fully complete their natural lifespan, living past a hundred years before passing away.
