Purgative, eliminates accumulated blood.
Salty and neutral in nature. Treats women's consumptive disorders, accumulated blood, and leukorrhea. Pediatric wind diseases. Erysipelas, scalds, and burns. (Liu Jingshu in *Yi Yuan* states: it treats the "river fish disease".)
Tonifies Yang.
Sweet and warm in nature. Supports the eruption of smallpox/rashes. Promotes lactation. Expels wind-phlegm. (For stroke syndrome, use half a [missing herb name], add ginger, green onion, and sauce, boil in water. First consume the solid matter, then drink the decoction. Use a goose feather to induce vomiting, expelling phlegm and saliva, then administer medicine according to symptoms.) Strengthens the sexual function. (Toxic, stirs up wind-heat.)
Tonifies wind, kills parasites.
Sweet, salty, and neutral in nature. Treats flying corpse worms, roundworms, sweet taste in the mouth, dental caries, and head sores. Removes tinea, wind-itch, and damp-itch. Treats mountain mosquitoes burrowing into human flesh. If [missing herb name] is consumed initially, the sore will heal. Consumed with pork. Increases salivation.
Tonifies and warms the Kidney.
Sweet and warm in nature. Warms the Water Organ (Kidney). Strengthens sexual function. Resolves mass formations (zheng jia). Treats carbuncles, sores, and toxic swellings. Women's difficult labor and qi-blood pain. (Li Shizhen says: Males and females pair up; their nature is warm, possessing the meaning of mutual interaction. Therefore, they are often used in sexual arts for difficult labor and Yang deficiency, similar to the efficacy of Gecko and Langjunzi.)
Tonifies deficiency.
Sweet and warm in nature. Highly toxic. (Chen Zangqi says: Improper processing leads to death upon consumption; those who are strongly deficient should avoid it. Li Shizhen says: Boiling must avoid falling coal ash. It is incompatible with Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie), Chrysanthemi Flos (Juhua), Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi), and Aconiti Radix (Wutou). It is suitable with Imperatae Rhizoma (Baisao/Di Sun), Artemisia argyi (Lou Hao), etc. It is inhibited by Oleae Fructus (Ganlan), Saccharum Officinarum Caulis (Ganzhe), Phragmitis Rhizoma (Lugen). Tao Jiucheng in *Zhuo Geng Lu* states: After consuming Pufferfish, one cannot take herbal decoctions within a day, fearing conflict with Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie); these two substances are highly incompatible. I personally witnessed a case because of this. The world transmits that for poisoning, soaking in Olive or Borneolum Syntheticum (Bingpian) water can detoxify. Another prescription: lightly stir-fry Sophorae Flavescentis Cortex (Huaihua), mix equally with dried Carmine (Gan Yanzhi), pound into powder, mix with water and administer; it is extremely effective. Also, according to *Wu Lei Xiang Gan Zhi*, when boiling Pufferfish, boil together with Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie) for five to seven boils, change the water, and it becomes non-toxic. These two theories contradict each other; perhaps the toxin of Pufferfish enters Schizonepetae Herba? Better to follow Tao's theory to avoid regret.) Tonifies deficiency. Eliminates dampness. Regulates waist and legs. Eliminates hemorrhoids. Kills parasites. Fu Sha. Liver and roe are especially toxic.
