Longnao Xiang (Borneol), also known as Bingpian (Borneol). It has the functions of promoting the unblocking of orifices and dispersing fire.
Pungent in flavor, warm in nature. (*Bencao Gangmu* states: slightly cold, because its physical temperature is high while its therapeutic effect is cool). Its fragrance is penetrating and volatile, good at moving and dispersing. It first enters the Lung Meridian, then transmits to the Heart and Spleen meridians, and can penetrate into the bones.
It can unblock all orifices, disperse stagnant fire, expel "ghost evils" (referring to certain strange pathogenic factors), improve hearing and vision, eliminate wind pathogens, and resolve dampness. It treats convulsions, epilepsy, and phlegm misting the mind; red eyes and skin opacities. (Apply mixed with milk.) Treats deafness, nasal congestion with discharge (nasal polyps will fall out after application, demonstrating the power of unblocking orifices); throat obstruction with tongue swelling and protrusion. (Apply powder directly.) Treats bone pain and toothache. (Treats skeletal diseases.)
Treats collapsed smallpox lesions. (Use pig heart blood as a guide, taken with wine, or taken with Zicao Decoction [Arnebiae Radix et Rhizoma], to guide the medicinal force into the Heart Meridian, enabling the eruption of toxins.) Treats difficult labor. (Take mixed with fresh well water.) Treats three types of parasites (roundworms, pinworms, liver flukes, etc.) and five types of hemorrhoids. Patients with wind pathogens in the bone marrow are suitable for its use. However, if used indiscriminately on blood vessels and muscles, Borneol and Moschus (Musk) will instead draw wind pathogens into the bones, like oil entering flour, impossible to remove. For unclear vision due to deficiency, it should not be used for eye drops. (Jiezai said: Borneol is extremely pungent and hot. Used for eye drops, it aims to extract fire pathogens, which is the "treating fire by dispersion" method from the perspective of treating contrary symptoms. People mistakenly believe it is cold and use it frequently, leading to accumulated heat damaging the eyes. Hence the saying "eyes do not go blind without dropping medicine," which refers to this. Fragrant herbs are the leaders among all medicines; those with strong fragrance must have warm and hot properties.) Originates from Nanfan (Southern overseas regions). It is said to be resin from old fir trees, with white-as-ice, plum-blossom-shaped pieces being the best. (Currently, people use Camphor [Zhangnao] to冒充 and disrupt the market; if Camphor is preserved with Fir charcoal, it does not easily dissipate. For toothache, mix a small amount of Borneol and Cinnabar powder, apply to the site for immediate relief. For internal and external hemorrhoids, take half a qian of Borneol, dissolve in Scallion Juice, and apply.)
Zhangnao (Camphor). It has the functions of promoting the unblocking of orifices and resolving dampness.
Pungent in flavor, hot in nature, with a penetrating and volatile fragrance. It can generate fire within water. (When placed in water, the flame burns more intensely.) It can open blockages and promote flow, resolve dampness, and kill parasites. Placed in shoes, it removes Hong Kong Foot (Tinea Pedis/Foot Athlete's Foot). (*Jiyi Fang* records: Mix with Aconitum carmichaelii Debeaux powder, make pills the size of beans using vinegar, place on the sole of the foot, and bake over mild heat until sweating occurs, which indicates efficacy.) Fumigate clothing chests to repel moths. Made by slicing Camphor wood and decocting in well water. (For infant alopecia barbae/circumscribed scalp ringworm, take one qian of Camphor, two qian of Zanthoxyllum bungeanum Maxim., and two liang of Sesamum indicum L. seed, grind into powder together, wash the affected area with Tui Zhu Tang [Decoction for Removing Pig Disease], and apply.)
