Yinchen (Artemisiae Scopariae Herba)
Descends to unblock the water passages. Treats jaundice caused by damp-heat. Ascends to enter the Yangming channel. Its taste is bitter, nature is cold, and it is non-toxic. It can also reach the exterior. It specializes in dispersing and draining [damp-heat]. (Yinchen: This herb resembles Qinghao (Artemisiae Annuae Herba) but lacks fragrance; the back of its leaves is white. It does not die through winter, and in spring, new shoots grow from old stems, hence the name "Yinchen" (relying on the old). Its nature and taste are bitter and cold; it has ascending and descending properties. Its efficacy lies specifically in inducing sweating and promoting urination, making it a key herb for treating dampness diseases and jaundice. However, within its bitter-cold nature, there is a slight pungency and fragrance. Its form, texture, nature, and taste are similar to Qinghao, but Qinghao cannot treat dampness, whereas Yinchen excels at treating dampness. It can treat all interior and exterior damp-heat conditions. It is contraindicated in cases of deficiency-cold jaundice with spontaneous urination.)
Haijinsha (Lygodii Spora)
Promotes urination and relains strangury. Moves blood in the Taiyang channel. Its nature is cold, and its taste is bland. Clears stasis-heat from the uterus. (Haijinsha: Its color is yellowish-red like fine sand, found among grass leaves. The plant is one or two chi tall. In July, the whole plant is harvested, dried in the sun, placed on paper, and beaten with a stick; the fine sand falling onto the paper is the medicinal part. Its taste is sweet and bland, and its nature is cold. Its property descends and can enter the blood level, thus treating strangury and pain syndromes caused by damp-heat and stasis remaining in the blood level of the small intestine and bladder. This herb does not flower; its qi concentrates in the leaves, condensing into this sand. It is highly effective for hematuria, lithiasis, and sand-strangury. However, due to its cold and descending nature, it should not be used in cases of liver and kidney deficiency-cold, insecurity of the lower origin leading to seminal emission, slippery discharge, or turbid urine without pain in the urethra.)
Gujingcao (Pseudocymopteri Radix)
Generated by acquiring the Qi of Autumn Metal and grain. Its warm nature can soothe the Liver and rub away corneal opacities. Its sweet and bland taste nourishes the Middle Earth and Stomach Yin. Its light and floating nature treats upper disorders and cures head wind. (Gujingcao: Grows after rice harvest in fields, relying on residual grain Qi. It grows in clusters with thin stems, bearing small white flowers at the stem tips. Its seeds are white and shaped like pepper grains. With a light and floating quality and a balanced nature, it enters both the Jueyin and Yangming channels, soothing the Liver and harmonizing the Stomach. It treats all types of head wind and eye diseases. In treating eye opacities, it provides dispersion with tonification because it contains grain Qi.)
