Therefore, Toujin (Head Scarf) is indicated for thirst following relapse after exertion in Tianxing disease (epidemic infectious diseases). Take a thicker head scarf, soak it to extract the juice, warm and drink one sheng (out of *Qianjin Fang*). [Name] (Li Shizhen states) In ancient times, wrapping the head with a chi (unit of length) of cloth was called Jin. Later generations used gauze, silk, cloth, or ramie sewn into square shapes as Jin, round ones as Mao (Hat), those lacquered as Guan (Crown), silk used to bind hair as Jin, head-covering linen as Ze (Cap), and hair-netting as Wangjin (Net Headscarf), which are modern conventions. [Treatment] (*Ji Yuan Fang*) Treats Huoluan (cholera-like syndrome with vomiting and diarrhea) by secretly taking the patient's own head silk fabric, soaking it in boiling water to make a decoction, drinking one sip without letting the patient know. (*Shenghui Fang*) Treats sudden onset of Xintong (heart pain) using a three-year-old head scarf; pour boiling water over it to collect the liquid for drinking. Cover the scarf with a bowl and place it in an empty space; recovery occurs within a week. [Combined Treatment] (*Ma Shi Fang*) Treats Eqi Xintong (heart pain caused by evil qi) using one qian of ash from burnt broken net headscarves and five fen of ash from burnt cat feces, taken with warm wine. (*Ji Jian Fang*) Treats Xia Shi Gan Chuang (ulcerative sores below the navel/genitals) using broken net silk burnt until carbonized but retaining its nature, mixed with equal parts (five fen each) of Haier Cha (Child's Tea/Catechu), ground into powder. Wash the affected area thoroughly with strong tea; effective after three to five applications. [Contraindications] Raw/cold foods, sexual intercourse, and "Fa Wu" (stimulating foods that may exacerbate disease).
Futou (Ceremonial Headwrap/Cap) is indicated for treating Chanhou Xueyun (postpartum blood syncope) by burning to produce smoke for fumigation; or burnt to ash and taken with water to treat Beng Lou (metrorrhagia) and Jiaochang Bing (Jiaochang disease in women) (from *Bencao Gangmu*). [Name] (Li Shizhen states) Futou refers to the court cap. Emperor Wu of Northern Zhou first used lacquered gauze to make them. By the Tang Dynasty, Shaomao (gauze caps) were also established, and this usage continues today. [Combined Treatment] (*Chen Zongling Fang*) Treats Bao Beng Xia Xue (sudden severe uterine bleeding) using Hupo San (Amber Powder), incorporating ash from lacquered gauze caps, based on the principle of Yang Qi rushing upward. ○ (*Xia Zi Yi Qiji Fang*) Treats women whose Yin and Yang positions have reversed due to childbirth, resulting in feces being expelled from the anterior yin, named Jiaochang Bing. Take old Futou, burn to ash, and administer with wine. Intermittently administer Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) to separate and drain fluids. [Substitute] If Futou is unavailable, any old lacquered gauze cap can serve as a substitute. This utilizes the property of lacquer to move stagnant blood.
Pijinzi (Leather Headband/Scarf) is indicated for Xi Xue (lower body bleeding) and Da Feng Li Chuang (leprosy/severe skin ulcers), incorporated into medicine as burnt ash (from *Bencao Gangmu*). [Combined Treatment] (*Shenghui Fang*) Treats chronic Chang Feng Xie Xue (chronic intestinal wind with bloody stool) refractory to hundred medicines. Use burnt ash of worn leather headbands and Bai Fan (Alum refined by sublimation) each one liang, charred human fingernails and She Xiang (Musk) each one fen, processed Gan Jiang (Prepared Ginger) three liang. Grind into powder. Take one qian per dose, washed down with rice water.
