Chu Cheng stated: In men, Yang energy follows a smooth trajectory, growing from the bottom upwards; therefore, the Right Chi (Right Cun-Chi pulse position at the wrist) is the root of receiving life. Since all things emerge from Earth, the Right Guan (Middle pulse position) corresponds to the Spleen. The Spleen generates the Lung, so the Right Cun (Upper pulse position) corresponds to the Lung. The Lung generates the Kidney, so the Left Chi corresponds to the Kidney. The Kidney generates the Liver, so the Left Guan corresponds to the Liver. The Liver generates the Heart, so the Left Cun corresponds to the Heart. In women, Yin energy follows a reverse trajectory, descending from the top downwards; therefore, the Left Cun is the root of receiving life. Since all things emerge from Earth, the Left Guan corresponds to the Spleen. The Spleen generates the Lung, so the Left Chi corresponds to the Lung. The Lung generates the Kidney, so the Right Cun corresponds to the Kidney. The Kidney generates the Liver, so the Right Guan corresponds to the Liver. The Liver generates the Heart, so the Right Chi corresponds to the Heart. (See *Chu Shi Yi Shu* for details.)
Hua Gu Chu Yong stated: The *Mai Jue* (Pulse Classic) claims that the fullness and weakness of the Chi pulse in women are opposite to those in men, which is a view running counter to reason. Men and women have completely different physical forms and distinct paths of Yin and Yang. Males are born head-down (covered), while females are born head-up (upright). Male Qi rotates to the left, while female Qi rotates to the right. Males are primarily active in giving, while females are primarily receptive. A man's vital essence resides in the Kidneys, located at the lowest point of the Zang-Fu organs; a woman's vital essence resides in the breasts, located at the highest point of the Zang-Fu organs. Since both form and Qi differ, how can the pulse, which operates within form and Qi, remain unchanged? Thus, Chu's theory is reasonable. (See *Qu Yi Shuo* for details.)
Dai Qizong stated: The *Mai Jue*, due to the distinction between men having the Left Kidney and Right Mingmen (Gate of Life), and women having the Left Mingmen and Right Kidney, claimed the pulse positions were reversed, deviating from orthodoxy. Various schools then explained this using the fullness and weakness of the Chi pulse. Chu further erred by placing the diagnosis of the Heart and Lungs in the Chi position for women, inverting the Five Zang organs, which was an even greater mistake. One must not ignore that although men and women differ in form, Qi, essence, and blood, the course of the Twelve Meridians and the fixed positions of the Five Zang organs remain identical. How can one claim that women's pulse positions are reversed?
Zhu Zhenheng (Danxi) stated: In ancient times, Xuanyuan Huangdi dispatched Linglun to cut bamboo from Xiegu Valley to create the Huangzhong (Yellow Bell) pitch pipe, to observe the solar terms of Heaven and Earth. He dispatched Qibo to take the Qi Kou (Radial Artery) as the method for pulse diagnosis, to observe human dynamic Qi. Therefore, the Huangzhong measure is nine fen, and the Qi Kou measure is also nine fen. Once the pitch pipe was established, the Cun measurement took shape. Thus, in pulse movement, Yang obtains nine fen, and Yin obtains one cun, aligning with the Huangzhong. Heaven is deficient in the northwest, with Yang in the South and Yin in the North; thus, men have a strong Cun pulse and weak Chi pulse, resembling Heaven. Earth is incomplete in the southeast, with Yang in the North and Yin in the South; thus, women have a strong Chi pulse and weak Cun pulse, resembling Earth. The Huangzhong is the precursor of Qi, capable of measuring celestial and terrestrial seasons; the Qi Kou is the convergence of pulses, capable of knowing life and death. Vulgar doctors of the world recite the fabricated works of Gaoyang Sheng, attempting to treat diseases with them; it would be rare if they did not cause death.
Ye of Longqiu stated: Pulse is the original nature of Heaven and Earth; thus, the fullness and weakness of Cun and Chi in men and women emulate Heaven and Earth. Yue Ren (Bian Que) believed males are born in Yin and females in Shen, with Three Yang generated from Heaven and Three Yin grown from Earth. This error is extremely serious. Only Danxi traced back to the laws of pitch pipes, integrating Heaven and Humanity to refute this, making millennia-old errors clear overnight. Is this not correct?
