Ziheche (Placenta), also known as Chaohunpi, is the placenta.
It greatly tonifies Qi and Blood. Its nature is sweet and salty, and warm. Since it is generated from human Qi and Blood, it can greatly tonify Qi and Blood, treating all types of severe deficiency consumptive diseases (Deficiency damage: First damage to Lung, with dry skin and falling hair; Second damage to Heart, with decline in blood vessels; Third damage to Spleen, with emaciation of muscles; Fourth damage to Liver, with flaccid tendons that cannot be controlled; Fifth damage to Kidney, with bone atrophy and inability to stand. The Six Extremes refer to Qi extreme, Blood extreme, Tendon extreme, Muscle extreme, Bone extreme, and Essence extreme), as well as mental confusion, loss of will, and epilepsy. It is best obtained from a first-born fetus or from women without disease. If it contains fetal toxins, it is harmful to people (it can be tested by inserting a silver vessel, baking, and boiling; if it does not turn black, it has no toxicity). Wash it thoroughly with long-flowing water, steam it with wine, bake it until dry, and grind it into powder. Alternatively, boil it until soft, mash it, and add it to medicine (if roasted on a new tile, its essence juice is damaged); it can also be mixed and cooked for food. (Li Shizhen said: Cui Xinggong in *Xiao'er Fang* stated that the placenta should be buried deeply and compacted in an auspicious direction during the Tian De and Yue De months. If eaten by pigs or dogs, it causes the child to become epileptic; if eaten by ants, it causes sores and tinea; if eaten by birds or sparrows, it causes a bad death; if thrown into fire, it causes sores and rot; there are taboos regarding proximity to shrines, wells, stoves, and streets. This is the natural principle of "when the copper mountain collapses, the bells in Luoyang echo." Nowadays, people process it into medicine, claiming it is "using humans to supplement humans," but eating one's own kind violates Cui's precepts. Therefore, this collection excludes items like Tianninggai.)
Tongbian (Child's Urine), also known as Huanyuan Shui. Drinking one's own urine is called Lunhui Jiu.
It pacifies Fire, clears heat, tonifies Yin, and dissipates blood stasis. Its nature is salty and cold (Li Shizhen considered it warm). It guides Lung Fire downward to exit via the Bladder, following its original pathway, thus clearing heat and nourishing Yin very rapidly. It moistens the Lungs and dissipates blood stasis (Salty flavors enter the Blood level), treating Lung萎 (Lung atrophy) with loss of voice, hematemesis, and epistaxis (For any case of traumatic injury, blood stagnation causing fainting, open the mouth and pour hot urine inside; consciousness returns immediately upon swallowing. It is suitable for all metal wounds and beatings, without damaging the Zang-Fu organs. Using other medicines might harm those without stasis. It also treats retained placenta due to its ability to dissipate stasis). It is the only remedy for postpartum blood syncope,敗血 entering the Lungs, chronic cough due to Yin deficiency, and heat steaming like burning flames. (Chu Cheng of the Jin Dynasty in *Lao Ji Lun* stated: "Clearing heat is extremely fast, lowering blood is miraculous. Drinking urine saves nearly everyone, while taking cold-cooling medicines kills almost everyone.") Use urine from boys under twelve years old (who have undeveloped knowledge and no Ministerial Fire), preferably those who do not eat meat, fish, sour, or salty foods. Discard the beginning and end of the stream, take the middle portion which is clear as water, and drink it while hot. When hot, the true Qi remains, and its movement is rapid; when cold, it only retains its salty-cold nature. Adding Ginger Juice (to move phlegm) or Chinese Leek Juice (to scatter phlegm) is better. In winter, warm it with decoction before use. (Li Shicai said: Refined Qiushi loses much of the true Yuan Qi, far inferior to Tongbian. *Puji Fang* records: For red and swollen painful eyes, wipe with one's own hot urine, then close the eyes for a moment. This uses true Qi to retreat pathogenic heat.)
