[Shi Zhong Ru (Stalactite)]
The flavor is sweet and the nature is warm; it is non-toxic. It primarily treats cough with rebellious Qi, improves vision, benefits essence, calms the five Zang organs, unblocks all joints, facilitates the nine orifices, and promotes lactation.
(Shi Zhong Ru is also known as Xu Zhong, Lu Shi, and E Guan Shi, all names referring to its hollow interior. The fluid and Qi of stones gather and condense into milk-like droplets that fall and form stone, hence the name Shi Zhong Ru. Now it is inversely called Zhong Ru Shi. It originates from the valleys of Mount Tai and Mount Shaoshi. Currently, it is found in stone caves of famous mountains in the eastern regions. Those that are thin, light, hollow in the center, shaped like goose quill tubes, breakable like fingernails, and bright in luster are considered superior.)
Shi Zhong Ru is formed by the fusion and condensation of stone fluids; its flavor is sweet and nature warm. It primarily nourishes the juices of the Middle Jiao and transports them upward to the Lung, thus treating cough with rebellious Qi. The Middle Jiao extracts juices to support the Heart, transforming them red to become blood, thus improving vision. Flowing inward to become essence, it benefits essence. When essence and Qi are abundant, the five Zang organs harmonize, thus calming the five Zang organs. When blood and Qi are abundant, all joints harmonize, thus unblocking the joints. Fluids moisten the empty orifices, so the nine orifices facilitate naturally. Nourishing the meridians, lactation flows down naturally.
[Yu Yu Liang (Halloysitum)]
The flavor is sweet and the nature is cold; it is non-toxic. It primarily treats cough with rebellious Qi, alternating chills and fever, irritability and fullness, dysentery with red and white discharge, amenorrhea, excessive heat from zheng jia (masses), and when refined and taken, prevents hunger, lightens the body, and prolongs life.
(Yu Yu Liang originally originated from pools, marshes, and islands in the East Sea. Currently, it is mostly produced in Dongyang, Zezhou, and Luzhou. The stone contains fine powder resembling flour, hence the name Yu Liang. Li Shizhen stated: Yu Yu Liang is yellow powder within stones, growing in pools and marshes; those growing in mountain valleys are called Tai Yi Yu Liang.)
Zhang Zhongjing's *Shanghan Lun* states: For individuals who sweat frequently, inducing sweating again will inevitably lead to mental confusion and restlessness, and pain in the yin region after urination; Yu Yu Liang Wan is appropriate. The complete formula has been lost, and it is rarely used in the world today.
[Tai Yi Yu Liang (Halloysitum)]
The flavor is sweet and the nature is neutral; it is non-toxic. It primarily treats cough with rebellious Qi, zheng jia (masses), amenorrhea, metrorrhagia (leukorrhea/blood leakage), expels pathogenic factors, and alleviates stiffness in limbs and joints. Long-term consumption enables resistance to cold and heat, prevents hunger, lightens the body, and even allows flying for a thousand miles, becoming an immortal.
Chen Cangqi stated: Tai means great; Yi means Dao (the Way). The teacher of the Great Dao is the Divine Lord of Transformation and Rationalization, who was the teacher of Yu the Great. Since the teacher once consumed it, it bears the name Tai Yi. Tao Hongjing stated: The *Bencao* lists two types: Tai Yi Yu Liang and Yu Yu Liang. Their therapeutic properties are identical, but currently only Yu Yu Liang exists in the world, and Tai Yi Yu Liang is no longer recognized. Li Shizhen stated: Those growing in pools and marshes are called Yu Yu Liang, while those growing in mountain valleys are called Tai Yi Yu Liang; originally, they are the same substance. Since the Jin and Song dynasties, without distinguishing between mountain valleys and pools/marshes, they were collectively referred to as Tai Yi Yu Liang, the meaning of which can be inferred.
