岭南杂记∶化州仙橘，相传仙人罗辨种橘于石龙之腹，至今犹存，惟此一株，在苏泽堂
者为
最，清风楼次之，红树又次之。其实非橘，皮浓肉酸，不中食。其皮厘为五片七片，不可成
双，每片真者可值一金。每年所结，循例具文报明上台，届期督抚差亲随跟同采摘批制，官
斯土者，亦不多得。彼土人云，凡近州始闻谁楼更鼓者，其皮亦佳，故化皮赝者多，真者甚
难得。 关涵岭南随笔∶化州署橘树，一月生一子，以其皮入药，痰立解。后为风折，即其
地补种，气味便殊。今称化州橘红者，皆以增城香柚皮伪代之，能化物而不能自化。 粤语
∶化州有橘一株，在署中，月生一子，以其皮为橘红，瀹汤饮之，痰立消，曩亦进御。今为
大风所拔，新种一株，味不及。化州故多橘红，售于岭内，而产署中者独异。 本草乘雅云
∶橘柚专精者实，实复专精者皮。皮布细窍，宛如人肤，即脉络、肉理、筋膜、子核，各有
属焉，故力能转入为升，转升为合，即转合为开也。种种形证，悉从入从合，故胸中瘕热，
水谷失宣，神明不通，气逆及气臭耳下气者出已而降，玉衡机转之妙用也。 识药辨微云∶
化橘红近日广中来者，皆单片成束，作象眼块，或三十五十片，两头以红绳扎之，成一把，
外皮淡红色，内腹皮白色，周身亦有猪鬃皮，此种皆柚皮，亦能消痰。又有一种为世所重，
每个五片如爪，中用化州印，名五爪橘红，亦柚皮所制，较掌片为佳。究之真者远甚也。真
化州橘红煎之作甜香，取其汁一点入痰盂内，痰皆变为水，此为上品。 梁氏家藏苏泽堂化
州橘红，每一个七破，反折作七歧，晒干，气甚香烈。有橘红歌云∶石龙灵异不可测，首向
青霄尾潜泽，有时声吼洪如鹅，有时喷沙白似雪，鸣或宰相应期生，鸣或科甲蝉联翼。由来
州牧履其常，惟恐怪奇骇愚俗，亭碑鼓吹镇其头，重镬累石填其穴，天生灵异无可凭，离奇
屈曲化为橘。橘之为性温且平，能愈伤寒兼积食，消痰止嗽功更奇，谁先辨此真龙脉，价值
黄金不易求，寄语人间休浪掷。
治痰症如神，消油腻谷食积，醒酒宽中。气虚者忌服。解蟹毒（慈惠编∶食蟹中毒，橘
红煎
辰砂五香丸 治翻胃、噎膈、呕吐。张氏秘效方∶用血竭、乳香、没药、辰砂各一钱五
分，
钱，共为末，每三分酒服。
羊癫疯 良方集要∶雄黄、天竺黄、川贝母各五钱，真琥珀一钱，麝香一钱，陈胆星一
两，
以上各另研；全蝎十四个（去足酒洗），远志肉甘草汁制，钩藤、防风、化州橘红、姜衣、
羌
活、茯苓、天麻、石菖蒲各五钱，以上不可见火，晒干；蝉蜕三十个，白附子六钱，共为末
，炼蜜为丸，如龙眼大，每服一丸，开水下。
按∶百草镜 广东高州府化州出陈皮，去白者名橘红，今亦罕得。土人以柚皮代之，出
售外
方，价亦不贵。辨别之法，须先看皮色筋味，如皮皱粗色黄而浓，内多白膜，味反甜带辛者
，乃乳柑皮也，只堪点茶，不堪入药；皮极浓而泡松，纹极细而色黄，内多膜无筋，味甜多
辛少者，乃柚子皮也，性忌冷服；纹细，色红润而皮薄，多有筋脉，味苦辛，入口芳香者，
乃真化州橘红也，入药以此种为贵，然其性酸削，能伐生气，消痰虽捷，破气损人，不宜轻
用。近日有一种产仁和塘栖镇蜜橘皮所制，曰甜橘红，清香入肺醒脾，消痰之功，不下化产
，而性不峻削，名为香金板，南人体弱者宜之。 本草乘雅武林栖水出蜜橘，凡数十品，名
金钱穿心者，虽秀色可观，又不如佛肚脐。形小皮癞，甘美可口，霜降采取，气足味足，密
藏至春，剖皮抽脉，破囊吮汁，亦可振醒精神，为得句破疑之助。
《岭南杂记》记载：化州的仙橘，相传是仙人罗辨在石龙的腹部种植的橘子树，至今仍然存在。其中只有这一株，以苏泽堂所产的为最佳，清风楼产的次之，红树产的又次之。这种树的果实并不是普通的橘子，皮厚肉酸，不能食用。它的果皮被剖分为五片或七片，不可能成双数，每一片真正的果皮价值一两黄金。每年结的果实，按照惯例都要呈文上报上级官府，到了采摘时节，督抚会派遣亲信随从跟随监督采摘和制作，在当地做官的人，也很少能吃到。当地人说，凡是靠近州城、能听到谯楼更鼓声的地方，产出的果皮也很好，所以化州产的橘红赝品很多，真品非常难得。
关涵《岭南随笔》记载：化州官署前的橘树，每个月长出一个果实，用它的皮入药，痰症立刻解除。后来这棵树被风吹折了，就在原地补种，但气味就不同了。现在市场上称为化州橘红的，都是用增城香柚的皮伪冒代替的，能够化解他物（痰湿）却不能自我化解（自身非真橘）。
《粤语》记载：化州有一株橘树，在官署中，每月生一个果实，用它的皮制成橘红，煮汤饮用，痰立刻消除，过去也曾进贡给皇帝。现在这棵树被大风拔起，新种了一株，味道不如从前。化州过去多产橘红，销往岭内地区，而产自官署的那一株尤为奇特。
《本草乘雅》记载：橘和柚专精于果实，果实再专精则体现在皮上。果皮分布着细密的孔窍，宛如人的皮肤，其中的脉络、纹理、筋膜、子核，各有归属，所以药力能够由转入升，由升转合，再由合转开。种种形态和证候，都遵循从入、从合的规律，所以对于胸中的瘕热（积聚发热）、水谷运化失常、神明不通、气逆以及耳下气臭等症状，能使气机下行后自然下降，这是玉衡星机转般的微妙作用。
《识药辨微》记载：近来广州传来的化橘红，都是单片成束，切成象眼块形状，或者三五十片为一把，两头用红绳扎紧，外皮淡红色，内腹皮白色，周身也有像猪鬃一样的纹路，这些其实都是柚皮，也能消痰。又有一种被世人看重，每个果实分五片如爪子状，中间盖有化州印，名叫“五爪橘红”，也是用柚皮制作的，比掌片状的更好。但究其根本，与真品相差甚远。真正的化州橘红煎煮后有甜香味，取一点汁液滴入痰盂内，痰都会变成水，这才是上品。

《本草乘雅》记载：武林栖水出产蜜橘，有几十种品种，名叫金钱穿心的，虽然秀色可观，又不如佛肚脐。形状小皮癞，甘美可口，霜降时采取，气足味足，密藏至春天，剖皮抽脉，破囊吮汁，也可以振作精神，作为得句破疑的帮助。
The silk filaments on the orange pulp, sugar-preserved Huazhou exocarp (Huazhou Juhong, 化州橘红), preserved orange cakes, medicinally prepared citrus cakes, green salt-aged tangerine peel (Qingyan Chenpi, 青盐陈皮), and Ju Ling.
*Records of Lingnan* states: The immortal oranges of Huazhou are said to have been planted by the immortal Luo Bian on the belly of a stone dragon, and this tree still exists today. Among them, only one tree is considered the best, specifically the produce from Suzetang; the produce from Qingfenglou ranks second, and that from Hongshu ranks third. The fruit of this tree is not an ordinary orange; its peel is thick and the flesh is sour, making it inedible. Its peel is sliced into five or seven segments, never in even numbers, and each genuine segment can be worth one tael of gold. The annual yield must be reported to higher authorities according to regulations. At the time of harvest, the Governor-General dispatches trusted attendants to supervise the picking and processing. Officials serving in this region rarely get to taste it. Locals say that wherever one can hear the drum beats from the watchtower near the prefecture, the peel produced there is also excellent. Therefore, there are many counterfeits of Huazhou peel, and genuine ones are very hard to obtain.
Guan Han's *Lingnan Casual Notes* states: The orange tree in front of the Huazhou government office bears one fruit per month. Its peel, when used as medicine, instantly resolves phlegm. Later, the tree was broken by the wind and replanted in the same location, but its aroma and flavor changed. Today, what is called "Huazhou Juhong" is mostly counterfeit, made from the peel of Zengcheng fragrant pomelo. It can resolve other things (phlegm) but cannot resolve itself (it is not true orange).
*Yueyu* states: There is one orange tree in the Huazhou government office that bears one fruit per month. Its peel is processed into Juhong, boiled in water and drunk, which instantly eliminates phlegm. It was once offered as tribute to the Emperor. This tree was uprooted by a strong wind, and a new one was planted, but its flavor is inferior. Huazhou formerly produced much Juhong for sale within Lingnan, but the one from the government office was unique.
*Bencao Chengya* states: Oranges and pomelos concentrate their essence in the fruit, and the peel concentrates the essence of the fruit. The peel is distributed with fine pores, resembling human skin. Its meridians, textures, fascia, seeds, and kernels all have specific affiliations. Thus, its medicinal power can transform from descending to ascending, from ascending to combining, and from combining to opening. All various forms and syndromes follow the principles of entering and combining. Therefore, for conditions such as heat accumulation in the chest (Jia Re, 瘕热), failure of water and grain to circulate, obstruction of the spirit-mind, rebellious Qi, and foul odor below the ears, the Qi descends after exiting, demonstrating the subtle efficacy akin to the rotation of the Jade Balance star.
*Shiyao Bianwei* states: The Huazhou Juhong recently arriving from Guangzhou consists of single segments bundled together, cut into diamond shapes, or thirty to fifty segments tied at both ends with red string to form a bunch. The outer peel is pale red, the inner albedo is white, and the surface has bristle-like textures. These are actually pomelo peels, which can also eliminate phlegm. Another type is highly valued by the world; each fruit is divided into five claw-like segments, stamped with the Huazhou seal, named "Five-Claw Juhong." It is also made from pomelo peel and is better than palm-shaped slices. However, compared to the genuine article, it falls far short. Genuine Huazhou Juhong, when decocted, yields a sweet fragrance. If a drop of its juice is added to a spittoon, the phlegm turns into water. This is the superior grade.
The Li family's collection of Suzetang Huazhou Juhong consists of fruits split into seven segments, folded back into seven branches, dried, with a very strong and fragrant aroma. There is a song about Juhong:
"The spiritual mystery of Stone Dragon is unfathomable,
Its head faces the blue sky, its tail hides in the depths.
Sometimes its roar is loud like a goose,
Sometimes it spews sand white as snow.
Its cry may herald the birth of a prime minister,
Or continuous success in imperial examinations.
Prefects walk their usual path,
Fearing strange wonders would frighten the ignorant.
Temples, steles, drums, and fanfare guard its head,
Heavy cauldrons and piled stones fill its cave.
Heaven-born spirituality relies on no proof,
Twisted and curved, it transforms into the orange.
The nature of the orange is warm and neutral,
It can cure cold damage and food stagnation.
Its merit in resolving phlegm and stopping coughs is miraculous.
Whoever first identifies this true dragon vein,
Will find its value beyond gold, hard to seek.
I send word to the world: do not waste it lightly."
Efficacy: Miraculous in treating phlegm disorders, resolves grease and grain food stagnation, awakens the stomach and relieves fullness. Contraindicated for those with Qi deficiency. Resolves crab toxicity.
*Cihui Bian* states: For crab poisoning, decoct and take Juhong.
Chensha Wuxiang Wan (Cinnabar Five-Aromatic Pills): Treats regurgitation, dysphagia, and vomiting. Zhang's Secret Effective Formula: Use Xuejie (Dragon's Blood), Ruxiang (Frankincense), Moyao (Myrrh), and Chensha (Cinnabar), each 1.5 qian. Grind into powder. Take 0.3 qian each time, washed down with wine.
Epilepsy: *Liangfang Ji Yao* states: Use Xionghuang (Realgar), Tianzhu Huang (Bambusa Textilis Stem Mould), and Chuanbeimu (Fritillaria Cirrhosa Bulb), each 5 qian; Zhen Hupo (True Amber) 1 qian, Shexiang (Musk) 1 qian, and Chendanxing (Aged Arisaema with Bile) 1 liang. Grind each separately. Use Quanxie (Whole Scorpion) 14 pieces (remove feet, wash with wine), Yuanzhi Rou (Polygala Root Flesh, processed with Licorice juice), Gouteng (Uncaria Rhynchophylla), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Huazhou Juhong, Jiangyi (Ginger Skin), Qianghuo (Notopterygium Root), Fuling (Poria), and Tianma (Gastrodia Rhizome), each 5 qian. Do not expose these to fire; dry them. Use Chantui (Cicada Slough) 30 pieces, Baifuzi (Typhonium Rhizome) 6 qian. Grind all into powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of longan seeds. Take one pill each time, washed down with boiled water.
Note: *Baicao Jing* states: Huazhou in Gaozhou Prefecture, Guangdong, produces Chenpi (aged tangerine peel). Those with the white albedo removed are named Juhong, but they are now rare. Locals substitute pomelo peel, selling it outside the region at a low price. The method of identification requires examining the peel color, veins, and taste. If the peel is wrinkled, rough, yellow, and thick, with much white membrane inside, and tastes sweet with a hint of pungency, it is Rugan (Milky Citrus) peel, suitable only for tea infusion, not for medicine. If the peel is extremely thick and spongy, with very fine texture, yellow color, much membrane without veins, and tastes sweet with little pungency, it is Pomelo peel, which should not be taken cold. If the texture is fine, color is ruddy and thin, with many veins, and tastes bitter and pungent with an aromatic entry, it is genuine Huazhou Juhong. This type is precious for medicine. However, its nature is acidic and astringent, capable of damaging vital Qi. Although it resolves phlegm quickly, it breaks Qi and harms people, so it should not be used lightly. Recently, there is a type made from the peel of honey oranges produced in Tangxi Town, Renhe, called "Sweet Juhong." Its clear fragrance enters the lungs and awakens the spleen. Its phlegm-resolving efficacy is comparable to Huazhou production, but its nature is not harsh. Named "Xiangjinban," it is suitable for weak constitutions in the South.
*Bencao Chengya* states: Xi Shui in Wulin produces honey oranges, with dozens of varieties. The variety named "Jinqian Chuanxin" (Gold Coin Piercing Heart) is visually appealing, but inferior to "Foduqi" (Buddha's Belly Navel). Small in shape, bumpy peel, sweet and delicious, harvested at Frost Descent, possessing sufficient Qi and flavor. Stored tightly until spring, the peel is sliced, veins removed, sacs broken, and juice sucked. This can also invigorate the spirit and aid in breaking doubts during poetic composition.
