[Names] Yingri Guo (Sun-facing Fruit) (from *Bianmin Tuzuan*), Yutan Bo.
Li Shizhen said: There are several varieties of Wuhuaguo (Fig), this one is the Yingri Guo.
It is what is called in Guangdong...
[Collected Explanations] Li Shizhen said: Wuhuaguo (Fig) originates from Yangzhou and Yunnan. Currently, households in Wu, Chu, Min, and Yue regions cultivate it. Its branches and leaves resemble those of the loquat tree (*Eriobotryae Japonicae Folium*); leaves emerge in the third lunar month resembling those of the paper mulberry (*Broussonetiae Papyriferae Folium*). In the fifth lunar month, fruit forms without flowering; the fruit grows among the branches, shaped like a wooden steamed bun, with a hollow and soft interior. It is harvested, pickled in salt, pressed flat, dried, and consumed as a fruit. When ripe, it turns purple, becomes soft and mushy, and tastes sweet like a persimmon but without seeds. According to *Fangyu Zhi*: The Yutan Bo of Guangxi fruits without flowering, shaped like a loquat. Additionally, Duan Chengshi in *Youyang Zazu* states: Azang, known by Persians and Fulins as Dizhen Tree, grows over ten feet tall with lush foliage; its leaves have five lobes resembling castor bean (*Ricini Fructus*), fruiting without flowers, red in color similar to persimmons, ripening in one month, and tasting like persimmons. Both books refer to this same fruit. There are also Wenguang Guo, Tianxian Guo, and Guduzi.
[Appendix] Wenguang Guo Grows in Jingzhou. Resembles Wuhuaguo in shape; flesh tastes like chestnut (*Castanea mollissima*), ripens in May.
Tianxian Guo Grows in Sichuan. The tree is eight or nine chi tall; leaves resemble lychee (*Litchi Chinensis*) but are smaller, fruiting without flowers. Fruits resemble cherries, hanging in clusters among branches, ripening in June and July, with an extremely sweet taste. Song Qi in *Fangwu Zan* stated: "There are offspring branches that fruit without flowers. Gently pluck them; their taste rivals honey."
Guduzi Grows in Jiaozhou, Guangzhou, and other prefectures. Leaves resemble chestnut leaves, fruiting without flowers. Fruits grow among branches, large like pomegranates or hawthorn (*Crataegi Fructus*) but red in color, sour in taste. Cooked and eaten as zongzi (sticky rice dumplings). If not cooked within a few days, they transform into flying ants that pierce the skin and fly away.
