[Collected Explanations] Su Gong stated: The leaves of Jiaohao (Acanthopanacis Senticosi Caulis, here referring to a specific herb described as having horn-like seed pods) resemble Baihao (Artemisia argyi), the flowers resemble Dianthus superbus (Qumai), are red and lovely, the seeds resemble Vaccaria segetalis (Wangbuliuxing), are black, and form horn-like structures. They are harvested in July and August.
Baosheng stated: The leaves resemble Cnidium monnieri (Shechuangzi) and Qinghao (Artemisia annua); the horn-like fruits resemble Vitex rotundifolia (Manjingzi), with black and fine seeds, ripening in autumn. It is found everywhere.
Kou Zongshi stated: The stems and leaves resemble Qinghao, producing pale red-purple flowers, approximately three or four fen in diameter. After flowering, it forms horn-like pods about two cun long, slightly curved.
Li Shizhen stated: When using Jiaohao, do not use Honghao (Red Mugwort) and Xiehao (Evil Mugwort); these two herbs truly resemble Jiaohao, but Jiaohao is more fragrant and has shorter horns. Upon harvesting, finely chop it on a locust wood cutting board for use.
[Flavor and Properties] Pungent, bitter, neutral in nature, slightly toxic.
[Indications] Treats dry tinea, wet tinea, and various malignant sores infested with parasites (*Tang Bencao*). Treats oral and dental sores, with excellent efficacy (Kou Zongshi).
[Attached Prescriptions] Two existing prescriptions, one new prescription.
Gum recession and exposure are often due to gan syndrome (childhood malnutrition/digestive disorder). Burn Jiaohao to ash and apply at night. Strictly avoid greasy foods, rock sugar, and dried dates (*Waitai Miyao*).
For oral ulcers that do not heal and spread to the chest region. Regardless of adult or child, apply Jiaohao ash to the affected area; if exudate appears, spit it out; effective after one night (*Qianjin Fang*). For "moon-eroded" ear sores (a type of ear ulceration), sprinkle mugwort ash; effective (*Jijian Fang*).

[Eponymy] E'ao (*Erya*), Luo Hao (ibid), Baoniang Hao.
Li Shizhen stated: Lu Nongshi said: "KT" implies "tall." E'ao also means "lofty," indicating the tall stature of the E'ao genus. It can cover silkworms, hence called Luo. It grows clustered around the roots, hence called Baoniang (Holding Mother).
[Collected Explanations] Li Shizhen stated: KT Hao grows on high ridges, resembling Cirsium japonicum (Xiaoji); its perennial roots sprout before other grasses. *Erya* states: E'ao is Luo. *Shijing · Xiaoya* states: "Lush and green are the E'aos." Lu Ji's annotation states: This is E'ao Hao. It grows in marshy, wet areas. The leaves resemble Xiehao but have finer stems, emerging in March. The stems and leaves can be eaten raw or steamed; they are fragrant and delicious, somewhat resembling Louhao (Artemisia selengensis). However, the taste has a numbing quality, unlike the sweet fragrance of Louhao.
[Flavor and Properties] Pungent, warm in nature, non-toxic.
[Indications] Invigorates blood and moves qi; consume by boiling/cooking (Chen Zangqi).
