White Pigeon Meat
Taste: Salty. Nature: Neutral. Non-toxic. Pigeons belong to the turtledove family, flying and gathering among houses. There are numerous varieties of feather colors; males and females pair up without mixing. They are domesticated by people and reproduce extremely prolifically. To slaughter for meat, drown them in water. [It] resolves various drug poisonings and cures chronic scabies. Droppings are collected, sun-dried, stir-fried until yellow, and ground into powder. Used to treat donkeys and horses suffering from persistent scabies; mix with fodder and feed daily.
Swallow Droppings
Taste: Acrid. Nature: Neutral. Toxic. There are two types; careful identification is required during use. Those with purple-red chests that are light and small are called Yue Swallows (Yueyan), which are unsuitable for medicinal preparation; those with black-spotted chests and loud calls are called Hu Swallows (Huyan), which are effective for treating diseases. In spring and summer, they nest on house beams and eaves to reproduce; in autumn and winter, they enter tree holes and earth burrows to hibernate. Their nests are long, sufficient to hold a bolt of silk. Droppings accumulate on the ground and should be harvested according to the season. It is most effective for treating chronic malaria: on the day of onset, stir one sheng of wine, hold it in both hands, and allow the vapor to gradually fumigate the nose; the malaria will cease. It is particularly effective in expelling gu toxin: take three he of stir-fried aromatic droppings on an empty stomach, form pills using single garlic cloves (mash the single garlic clove to make pills), and swallow with decoction; the gu toxin will be immediately expelled. It kills ghostly infections (guizhu) and drives away misfortune; breaks five types of strangury (wulong) to promote urination. Meat mashed and applied externally to hemorrhoids can also expel parasites. Live-slaughtered birds are not suitable; only dead ones may be used. Nests taken from places where chicks are fed can be boiled into a decoction for bathing children. It completely expels fright and epilepsy, and thoroughly removes sores and scabies.
Sparrow Eggs
Taste: Sour. Nature: Warm. Non-toxic. They are mostly found inside arches of old houses and can be collected according to the season. Mixed with Cnidium Fruit (Shechuangzi) to form pills, used for sexual enhancement. Taken with warm wine, it specifically benefits men. It supports impotence, making erection easier; tonifies yin deficiency, often maintaining retention. Brain marrow treats bilateral deafness and blockage; when applied externally, it also treats frostbite. Head blood applied to the eyes treats night blindness (que mang), enabling vision at night. The meat is very warm and hot; it supplements qi and strengthens yang. It warms the waist and knees effectively but is contraindicated for pregnant women as it harms pregnancy. The feces of male sparrows are named Bai Dingxiang (White Jasmine). Those with pointed ends at both poles are authentic; collecting them on the Dragon Boat Festival is excellent. Soak in Licorice Decoction (Gancao Tang) overnight, sun-dry, grind finely, and store. It resolves soft carbuncles and abscesses on the body surface; applying it causes immediate suppuration. It treats pterygium and bloody membranes in the eyes; applying it leads to immediate recovery. It eliminates zheng jia (masses) and fu liang (fixed lumps), and rots pi ji (accumulated masses). It is universally used for toothache and has proven effective repeatedly.
