Odor and Flavor: Bitter, Cold.
Efficacy: Treats severe heat and manic running associated with epidemic febrile diseases (Shixing). Resolves various heat toxins. Treats regurgitation (Fanwei) (specifically for cases of heat accumulation) and black depression of smallpox lesions. Applied externally to abscesses, back carbuncles (Fabei), and chronic sores/fistulas. Fresh application seals carbuncles (Dingzhong); after one day, the root rots and falls off.
Ren Zhong Huang (Human Excrement Yellow)
(Refers to the yellow substance condensed on bricks in latrine pits over many years.)
Its properties and efficacy are approximately the same as human feces. It resolves heat toxins in the Stomach.
Another preparation method: In the twelfth lunar month, cut a section of light bamboo, remove the green skin, and retain the upper and lower nodes. Create an opening in the upper node, place large Licorice Root (Gancao) inside, and seal the upper opening with wood. Insert one end of the lower node into fecal water and soak for one month. Remove, dry, and store for use. (This method is suitable for eliminating epidemic heat toxins.)
Fen Qing (Colostrum of Feces / Commonly known as Jin Zhi)
Preparation Method: In winter months, place a bamboo sieve over a basin. Line the bottom of the sieve with palm fiber and cotton paper. Spread five cun of yellow earth on top. Pour fecal juice onto the earth to filter it, collecting the clear filtrate. Place the filtrate in a new urn, cover the mouth with a bowl, and bury it in the earth for one year. Upon removal, it is clear as spring water, completely devoid of foul odor. The older it is, the better. This is superior to the bamboo tube infiltration method.
Flavor: Bitter, Cold.
Efficacy: Clears acrid-heat pathogens and resolves various toxins. Treats severe heat and manic running from epidemic febrile diseases, and purple-black, dry smallpox lesions. (Esuitable for Yin deficiency with dry-heat.)
Applied externally to all heat-toxin-induced abscesses, swellings, sores, and fistulas.
Jin Zhi belongs to turbid yin, descending without ascending. After long burial in the earth, turbidity is removed and clarity remains. For conditions where internal fire rebels upward, treat with substances that descend fire within the body.

Attached Formulas
1. Febrile disease with manic running, seeing ghosts, prolonged absence of sweating, and unconsciousness: Place Ren Zhong Huang in a large jar, seal tightly with mud. After half a day, remove fire toxicity, grind into powder, and administer three qian with fresh cold water. If symptoms persist, administer again.
2. Severe heat, mania, and thirst: Grind aged human feces into powder. Dig a small pit five to six cun deep in clean yellow earth in a shady place. Place three liang-spoons of powder in the pit, mix evenly with fresh cold water. Wait until it clarifies, then administer to the patient to resolve symptoms. Secularly called "Di Qing."
3. Dysphagia (Yige) and regurgitation (Fanwei), unresponsive to other medicines: One qian of true Asafoetida (Awei) and three qian of dried human feces from the wild, ground into powder. At the fifth watch (early morning), consume dipped in ginger slice. Can revive the dead.
4. Insect venom, hundred toxins, various heat toxins, epidemic febrile diseases, bleeding from mouth and nose: Burn seven tips of human feces to ash, mix with water, and take in one dose. Cover warmly to induce sweating; cure will follow. Highly effective.
5. Sudden onset of various poisons, suffocating heat threatening death: Drink fresh fecal juice mixed with water, or burn dried feces to ash, steep in water, and drink the juice. Named "Po Guan Tang" (Coffin-Breaking Decoction).
