It belongs to the same category as Yuyuliang (Hematitum). Those growing in Taiyi Valley are called Taiyiyuliang, which is the essence of Earth Qi condensed. (Those growing in the pools and marshes of the East Sea are called Yuyuliang, which is the essence of Water Qi condensed.) Currently, they are occasionally found only in mountains such as Kuaiji, Wangwu, and Zelu. The exterior is wrapped in a shell resembling armor; within the shell is white matter, and within the white matter is yellow matter resembling egg yolk, layered like leaves of realgar (Xionghuang, Orpiment), crumbling into powder when lightly tapped. If there is no yellow matter inside, but only turbid yellow water, it is called Shihuangshui (Stone Yellow Water). There is also that which condenses like stone, called Shizhonghuang (Stone Middle Yellow); these are not Taiyiyuliang. (He)
The flavor is sweet and neutral. It mainly treats cough with rebellious Qi, Zhengjia (abdominal masses), blood obstruction, and leukorrhea or metrorrhagia. It expels pathogenic factors and alleviates stiffness and discomfort in the limbs and joints. Long-term consumption enables one to withstand cold and heat without feeling hunger. It benefits the Spleen, stabilizes the Qi of the Zang organs, anchors the Five Zang, and settles the Six Fu. (Various Materia Medica) Lu Shi Ziyu stated: Taiyi is Taiyi, the beginning of Qi. It exists independently yet pervades everything, thus capable of anchoring and settling. The middle yellow possesses the stopping nature of Dun Gen. Regarding lung Metal failing to descend and converge, leading to cough and rebellious Qi, or conditions like Zhengjia and blood obstruction, these arise from stagnant Qi movement. Leaking and dripping discharge occurs because Qi fails to secure and hold. Taiyi allows Yuan Qi (Original Qi) to emerge through curvature, causing those who are凝闭 (condensed and blocked) or leaking to inevitably follow its movement and modulation. This is what is meant by "to treat blood disorders, first regulate Qi." If Yuan Zhen (True Qi) is withered and depressed, then pathogenic factors press from outside. Taiyi can smooth True Qi, so pathogenic factors naturally cannot coexist. Limb dysfunction is due to Qi stagnation. Taiyi's yellow penetrates the center and regulates the network vessels, disseminating Qi in all directions. When Qi is firm and repelling, it resists cold and heat; when Qi is full and solid, one does not suffer from hunger or deficiency.
[Processing] Use five he of Black Bean (Doushi, Glycine max seed prepared by fermentation) and Polygonati Rhizoma (Huangjing, Rhizoma Polygonati sibirici), add two dou of water, boil to obtain five sheng, place in a porcelain pot, add four liang of Yuliang, and boil. Add liquid as needed until the juice is exhausted. The medicinal aroma should be fragrant like new rice. Pound it, then grind for ten thousand strokes before use. ( )
It levels water and earth, with efficacy akin to the divine Yu, hence the name. It originates from the pools and marshes of the East Sea. It is also found in pools and marshes among mountain islands. Its shape resembles goose or duck eggs, with overlapping shells, containing fine yellow powder inside, similar to Puhuang (Lygodii Spora), free of sand is superior. Those recently sourced from the pools and marshes of Maoshan are extremely refined and good, resembling Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, Calculus Bos tae), with layered cracked surfaces. Its finest quality is purple, soft and powdery like flour, chewing without grittiness. (Chan refers to grittiness from sand in food.)
The flavor is sweet and salty, the qi is neutral and cold. It treats cough with rebellious Qi, alternating chills and fever, vexation, and fullness. It primarily manages Bengzhong (metrorrhagia), bloody and non-bloody dysentery, blood obstruction, Zhengjia, and high fever. It treats painful knots and vexation in the lower abdomen. Taken as processed pills, it prevents hunger. Medical texts treat Qi-patterns with distension and fullness, cough, fecal incontinence, epilepsy, diarrhea, bloody dysentery, and spermatorrhea. Yuyuliang is the gathering point of the essence of water and earth; since Earth is inferior to Water's momentum, it obtains the exclusive essence of Water Qi. The flavor is sweet and cold, countering Fire-Heat and turbid pathogens of water and earth. (Condensing into alternating chills and fever, cough with rebellious Qi, vexation and fullness, bloody and non-bloody discharge, blood obstruction, Zhengjia.) Or when the Kidney form lacks solidity, leading to flooding waters. (Ziyu) For typhoid with persistent diarrhea, epigastric hardness, and purging affecting the Lower Jiao, use Chishizhi (Haematitum, Haematites) and Yuyuliang each one jin, crushed, add six sheng of water, boil to obtain one sheng, remove dregs, and divide into two doses. For metrorrhagia with five-colored discharge causing infertility, use equal parts of Yuyuliang, Chishizhi, Muli (Ostreae Concha, Ostrea Shell), powdered Cutula Sepiae (Wuzhuyu, Cuttlebone), Fulonggan (Sanguis Glaebae, Red Clay), and Guixin (Cinnamomi Ramulus, Cinnamon Twig), made into powder, taken with warm wine, one cun bi per dose. Avoid green onions and garlic. For postpartum vexation, take one piece of Yuyuliang, bury half in the ground, pack tightly, cover with one jin of charcoal ash, wrap with wet soil overnight, break open, remove the outer stone, take the inner fine part, wash with water five or seven times, dry in the sun, grind again for ten thousand times, and take two qian with Licorice Decoction (Gancao Tang, Glycyrrhizae Decoctio), effective after one dose.
[Discussion] There are two types of Yuliang, both formed by the fusion of water and earth essences, while Yuyuliang leans towards obtaining the exclusive essence of Water Qi. Sweet and cold clearing Heat can achieve results even with herbal plants. However, only when the essence of Water joins with Earth to complete the generation and transformation of Earth's way, possessing the essence of water flow and earth stopping, generation and separation, can it truly match. Thus, it can benefit Yin deficiency in the Lower Jiao and clear vexation, heat, pain, and knots. For example, postpartum vexation in women responds immediately to this medicine, which is an accurate indication. Yuliang can eliminate pathogens in the Yin of the Lower Jiao, while Chizhi can collect Qi in the Yin of the Lower Jiao. Therefore, they combine to achieve anchoring and consolidating effects.
[Processing] Grind finely, wash with water to extract the juice, clarify it, ensuring no sand or dirt remains.
