(Note: According to *Su Wen* (Basic Questions), slow and choppy pulse at the Cun position refers to Jie Xie (jiě xiè), pronounced "yi", which differs from what is discussed here.)
Jie Xie refers to the loosening and relaxation of muscles. Xie refers to tendons failing to bind the bones. The symptoms resemble cold but are not cold, resemble heat but are not heat; the four limbs and joints feel loose and sagging, accompanied by fatigue, weakness, and pain. Appetite is poor, and food lacks flavor. This is commonly known as Sha Bing (Sha Disease). *Nei Jing* (Inner Canon) calls it Jie Xie. Causes include dampness retained from alcohol consumption, contraction of Wind-Cold, excessive sexual activity, or in women, irregular menstruation leading to disharmony of Qi and Blood. All these can cause this condition. Although it resembles Sha Disease, it is not Sha Disease. Treatment should first involve slapping the inner arms with hot water-soaked cloth, or scraping with a hemp cloth dipped in water. Slapping and scraping must continue until the skin turns red and purple. Additionally, pricking Shi Xuan (Ten Extremities) and Wei Zhong (Bladder 40) acupoints to bleed is advisable. One should take Su He Xiang Wan (Styrax Pills).

Grind all into fine powder. Use An Xi Xiang paste and refined honey to make pills the size of bullet seeds, wrapped in wax. When using, dissolve one pill in warm water and take orally. (It is ideal for the pills to be wrapped in wax to prevent leakage of aroma.)
