To treat contusions and falls, with blood stasis retained internally, causing chest and abdominal distension and fullness, or constipation, or wheezing, coughing, and hematemesis.
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) (equal parts)
Grind into powder. Take 3 qian per dose, administered with warm wine. If Qi deficiency is present, add Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus).
To treat injuries from beating or falling, with blood stasis in the abdomen, causing severe distension and pain that is unbearable. After taking this medicine, the blood stasis transforms into water; its efficacy cannot be fully described.
Liuhuang (Sulfur) (4 liang, of bright color), Huaruishi (Pyri Fructus) (1 liang)
Grind both into powder and mix evenly. First, reinforce a clay pot with mud mixed with paper fibers and salt, let it dry, then put the medicine inside. Seal the mouth with mud again, place it on bricks, inscribe the Eight Trigrams and Five Elements on the empty spaces outside, and calcine with 30 jin of charcoal. Remove when the pot has cooled. Take 1 qian per dose, mixed with urine from an uncircumcised boy.
My commentary: If the injury is severe, Yuanqi (Original Qi) is depleted, there is internal blood stasis, and the patient cannot withstand strong draining methods, using one dose of the previous formula can transform the blood stasis internally without disturbing the Zang-Fu organs. This is very ingenious, very ingenious!
To treat pain caused by blood stasis from contusions and falls, or pain in the tendons and bones.
Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) (1 liang), Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) (5 qian)
Grind into powder. Mix with Jiangzhi (Ginger Juice) to apply to the affected area, cover with paper. If it dries, moisten with ginger juice. Change every other day.
To treat swelling and pain from contusions and falls.
Wumingyi (Collyrium) (stir-fried), Mu'er (Auricularia Judae) (stir-fried), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) (stir-fried, each 5 fen)
Grind into powder. Mix with honey water to apply. If there is internal blood stasis, use Bianfa (stone needle therapy) to release blood before applying the dressing. If the tissue is necrotic, applying Danggui Gao (Angelica Ointment) is even better.
To treat sores from caning that ulcerate and breed maggots. Calcine Zaofan (Alumen) and grind into fine powder for dry application; the maggots inside will die immediately. If there is no response, assist with Chaihu Zhizi San (Bupleurum and Gardenia Powder) to clear Liver fire.
For severe injuries, wash with this decoction first, then apply medication.
Jingjie (Schizonepetae Herba), Tu Danggui (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Hort.), Sheng Cong (Allii Fistulosi Bulbus) (cut into sections; another prescription uses Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens))
Decoct in water and wash with the warm liquid. Alternatively, using only Cong alone for decoction and washing is also acceptable.
To treat fractures and dislocations from contusions and falls. First wash with the aforementioned decoction and apply a paper paste. If there is a bone fracture, additionally sandwich with thin wooden splints and bind tightly with small ropes for three days. Thereafter, do not remove the splints as previously instructed, to prevent shaking the injured area until the bone becomes firm and solid, at which point removal is appropriate. For wounds caused by knives, scissors, or insect bites, apply a mixture of Jiangzhi (Ginger Juice) and water. For oral wounds, fill and smear with Fengliusan (Wind-Dispersing Powder).
Tu Danggui (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Hort.) (2 liang), Dingxiangpi (Syzygii Aromatisati Flos) (6 liang), Baicaoshuang (Carbonized Herb Powder) (6 liang for dispersing blood), Chuanshanjia (Manis Squama) (6 liang, stir-fried until yellow or calcined to retain properties), Pipaye (Eriobotryae Folium) (half liang after removing hairs; another source says Yunshan Pipa Gen (Eriobotryae Radix))
Bake until dry, grind into fine powder. Mix with Jiangzhi (Ginger Juice) and water, or mix with Dihuangzhi (Rehmanniae Juice) for grinding. Both are good.
