The "Houshan" bone refers to the occipital bone at the back of the head. Its shape varies; it may resemble the Chinese character "Pin" (品), "Shan" (山), or "Chuan" (川); it may be round and pointed, crescent-shaped, inverted-crescent-shaped, or egg-shaped. All these forms belong to the occipital bone. In cases of injury, the patient experiences dizziness and vertigo, tinnitus with audible sounds, stiffness of the neck and tightness of the throat, difficulty in swallowing food, restlessness in sitting and lying down, and weakness in the four limbs. Internally administer Zhenggu Zijin Dan (Orthopedic Purple Gold Pill), externally apply Wulong Gao (Black Dragon Ointment), and wash the area with Haitongpi Tang (Pterocarpus Bark Decoction) to dissipate blood stasis, relieve numbness, and alleviate pain. If a fall from a great height causes severe injury to the Houshan bone, resulting in tendon dislocation, shortness of breath, rattling phlegm sounding like sawing wood, drooping head with closed eyes, and wheezing, this indicates an invasion by wind-heat pathogen, representing a critical and incurable condition. If urinary incontinence occurs, death is inevitable. The crescent-shaped occipital bone is particularly susceptible to injury. If struck by falling objects or blows, causing vibration to the sutures of the cranial vault bones, leading to twisting pain of the brain nerves, coma, and loss of consciousness, but regaining consciousness after a short while, the patient can be treated. Immediately wet the hair with cold water, pry open the jaw, and administer Bali San (Eight-Centigram Powder) mixed with wine. If, after administration, the eyes open, the patient groans in pain, and tears flow from both eyes, these are signs indicating that treatment is viable. Subsequently, administer Zhenggu Zijin Dan and nourish the body with stir-fried rice porridge for recovery.

The "Shoutai" bone, also known as the Wanggu (Complete Bone), is located behind the ear and connects to the Yulou bone of the ear. If subjected to falls or blows, swelling will occur above and below the ear. If the Jin bone inside the ear is injured, blood, pus, and fluid will discharge. Externally, blood stasis accumulates and condenses, causing pain, and tendons become knotted and unable to relax, leading to dizziness and blurred vision, distending pain in the Fusang bones at the two temples, stiffness of the neck and nape muscles, flaccid redness and purpleness, diminished spirit, weakness in the four limbs, restlessness, and reduced appetite. Apply Wulong Gao to the injured ear area; wrap cotton silk around Daoqi Tongyu Ding (Qi-Dredging and Stasis-Resolving Plug) and insert it into the ear canal. Internally administer Renshen Zijin Dan (Ginseng Purple Gold Pill) to dredge stasis and reduce swelling. Externally fumigate and wash with Baxian Xiaoyao Tang (Eight Immortals Soothing Decoction) to dissipate flaccid swelling and pain. Avoid hot foods and triggering foods. If bleeding does not stop and the patient abstains from food and drink for three days, the brain marrow will likely be disturbed, making the condition untreatable.
