Gastrodia Rhizoma (Tianma):

Fuzi is pungent and extremely hot, belonging to Yang within Yang; therefore, it moves without stopping, unlike Gingeris Rhizoma (Ganjiang) which stops but does not move. If the body surface is cool and the four limbs are cold (Jue), it must not be used presumptuously. If used, it is because it treats Si Ni syndrome (Four Coldness).
*Bencao* further states: Scutellariae Barbatae Herba (Dichang) acts as its guide; it dislikes Centipedae Corpus (Wugong); fears Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), Glycines Semen Nigrum (Heidou), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Scutellariae Radix (Huangqin), and Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen). *Li Ye* states: Wutou, Fuzi, Tianxiong, and Cizi belong to categories that must be soaked in water, processed until cracked, and used after removing the skin and navel. Many have yellow exteriors and white interiors. The inferior properties remain. It is better to slice them while hot, then stir-fry again, making both interior and exterior yellow, uniform in color, so that inferior properties are eliminated, rendering it a good medicine. Few people in the world process it this way.
